Lovely, liquid syllables fall gently on the ear- Smiling, running children seem to bring a ray of cheer. Vendors calling to you, they are one thing that abounds, When you find yourself perusing, the smaller border towns. The food you’ll find delicious, the prices aren’t too bad. But beneath the smiling faces, are spirits, oh, so sad. Long the victims of oppressors, and the heirs of poverty- In their veins runs blood of warriors and a longing to be free. Ah, the culture is so precious; calm, and far removed from strife- One will shrug, and say, “Mañana”, for that is their way of life. ¿“Mañana”? That’s “tomorrow”. They live life for today- “Sufficient is the evil”… or so the Book does say. I would spend my evenings walking, ‘neath the palms, upon the sand- And watch “los niños” swimming in the placid Rio Grand- Where “mañana’s” never pressing, yes, I’m tempted oft to go- To while away remaining years, down in old Mexico. Slinger~ This seemed to flow so easily for you. How lovely is this - 'Lovely, liquid syllables fall gently on the ear-' Yes, and the music is such a delight. True, the poverty is a sad picture. But the culture is rich with beauty. Enjoyed this tale, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Dear Troubadour, your eloquence reveals your admiration and appreciation. Your work is often poignant, within your own special style, and this piece remains true to form. Excellent writing. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Gunslinger this reminds me of some of my journeys down there...interesting contrast of beauty and barenness.. Me and my brother went down a few times and he has told me the you have to watch out for the banditos right now...some are in cahoots with the taxi drivers who deliver them right into the arms of these desperatos...
