~ A Dedication for My Dad ~

Throughout our lives your love shines clear
Our comfort and strength, the father we hold dear.
As children you tended our cuts and scraped knees
You lulled us to sleep and banished childhood fears
As we grew older you were there to keep us in line
Solving grade school trouble and teenage woes.
You mended hearts broken by school yard foes.

Now many seasons have passed and we too have grown
With hearts brimming with warmth from the love
You have shown, though many times we have hurt
You, disappointed you and more never once did you
Turn away or shut love's door through the countless
Times we caused you pain.

Dad, if I were to recount all the reasons why we
Love you, and try to describe our love so deep
I'll be writing 'till I'm thirty and never again sleep!
So please just remember no matter what
Happens and wherever we are, you'll always be
In our hearts surrounded with love neither
Time or space can mar.

Now there's only one more thing left I really want
To say....other than God bless you dear Dad -
Happy Father's Day!

What a beautiful heartfelt show of tenderness this is.  I can only hope that someday my children feel this way about me.  You honor your dad and you as well in this wonderful write.

Thanks Mark for your kind comment
I'm glad you liked my poem and im sure your children feel the same way. It's difficult for some children (such as this one!) to actually say the words "I love you" to their dads, which is why i need to say it through a poem. But the feeling is always there just the same...just buried beneath layers of feigned nonchalance and awkwardness. God bless and smile!

Ann - What a wonderful tribute to your father.  He may be mortified when he reads it, because he sounds like the type of man who never asked for recognition for being a great man and dad.  He sounds like the kind of father who found his own rewards in the love he felt for his children.  But, that's OK, too.  His heart will swell with pride in you.
