One Last ... the hardest decision to be made that cold snowy day, bright with promise fraught with sadness held in arms, one last time he carried homemade box into office, I lifted her up on cold steel damn assistant placed her arm around neck covering the hole, causing her to gasp would have only one more breath, anyway one more look at us one more gentle stroke of our hands one last shot one last tear from our eyes one final second 'til eternity placed gingerly into box carried out into car driven to grave dug the night before, in anticipation of the freeze laid to rest in a field of snow, so pure and that first summer... walking the field of flowers upon closer look, there amongst the wild, standing tall among the queen anne's lace one last golden daisy... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * in memory of Ginger, long blonde, sleek build cold nose that would nuzzle sometimes in embarassing locations pure warmth, afghan of the finest 15 years in the making ...resting now for all eternity **forgot to say 3 months previously to this event... she couldn't breathe one night of wheezing led to surgeon's visit, put on a show while being interviewed impressed them all, priviledged, and given only the 3rd tracheostomy long drive to Philly, listless, barely breathing three days later, riding home, she couldn't sit still Cars passing by admired her beauty (strutting her stuff in the back seat) She could sense home before reaching it New rules, she sulked no outside, and no sucking in of bugs catch her sneezes and coughs, as they are expelled from her throat, instead of mouth only one week of glorious energy thereafter couldn't walk, needed to be carried in loving arms, up and down the staircase sometimes banging her head along the way she was just too large for the staircase would cry each time it happened, not her, but I Maureen *2k [This message has been edited by MMoonchild (edited 09-11-2000).] |

This was a very elegantly worded and truly emotional poem. I cried when I read it. She was a beautiful friend to you obviously (from the picture, she was absolutely GORGEOUS!). I'm sure she is honored by this tribute. Thanks for responding to my challenge. "It was my love that did us both to death. " -Sylvia Plath |

yes when you have no children and a pet for over 15 years they become your child...she was loved and I would have enjoyed her around more years if she could have survived the illnesses... ~~thank you for the challenge and reminding me to think of her today.. Maureen |

MMaureen, what a wonderful tribute to your dog, and a wonderful poem as well Kethry "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |

A beautiful dog, Maureen. It is nearly unbearable to have to make the decision, even knowing it means they won't suffer anymore. (((Hugs))) ...chanson~ Music, tonal clear & pure, Caresses the harshest of curves. -Song of Gesture |
