Horse-Runner

Horse-Runner stood
on the edge of the cliff
high above the treetops;
he raised his arms,
shouted to the silhouette
circling far above;
Brother Eagle,
you who fly
high above the land,
and like the Sky Father,
see everything;
my heart needs to know…
does she see me,
does she know I exist,
does she feel
the ache in my chest;
Brother eagle,
surely you know
her soul better than I,
give me a sign,
great sky bird,
something to ease
the emotions pervading
this body of mine.

Horse-Runner slipped
to his knees, hands at his side;
the Eagle screeched,
dove towards the cliff
in a looping arc that
catapulted it back to the sky;
Horse-Runner looked up…
a single, snow white, tail feather
was falling,
looping gently to the ground,
a single, snow white, tail feather…
a sign from the sky.

~Spirits Walking~

Riding the sky
on feathers spread
Gracefully gliding o'er
mountain stream edge
Eagle soared overhead -
seeing all - hearing all
Visioned tender maiden at edge of stream
tears of joy upon her face
as current moved one white feather
floating within her reach
The eagle spirit has given
the sign she sought in questioning
Where do I go to find the one
who calls my heart
She moves quietly upstream
following the direction
from which came
the feather of hope

When you write like this you touch something so deep inside me. I have never explored the Indian blood in our family but you make me want to do so...

thank you both for the read and the words.  I've truly enjoyed being able to write these and have several more in mind.

Marge, beautiful piece from you...thanks for sharing.
