Delve deep within my soul and you will find
A surging swell of love, the truest kind;
There is no pain of yours that I don’t claim;
Each sword that pierces you cuts me the same.

Each burning tear you’ve shed shall ever be
Engraved upon my heart indelibly;
Don’t think the slightest pang escapes my eye;
Please know my very core can sense each sigh.

I’d face hell’s blazing throes to spare you, child,
From any raging tempest thrashing wild
And all life’s searing flames for you I’d smother
No. I’m no hero. I am just your mother.

Denise

Denise, I'm glad I've had a chance to read this tonight. There is a certain drama within the lines, the thoughts, yet the simplicity of your endline/statement is absolutely perfect. In short,   a beautiful, loving poem, my friend.

I have to say that I knew where you were going with the poem.  But I had to just let out a long sigh when I read "I'm no hero, I'm just your mother."

How very touching

so true, Denise - your lovely poem reminds me of something I heard - "a mother is only as happy as her least happy child"

Denise - Does this mean I shouldn't be chasing kitties if their mother is hanging around??  *wide-eyed alarm*.

I love the sentiments you express here.  There is a bond between mother and child that I think no father will ever truly experience.  You have captured the essence of that bond beautifully.

Thanks Mark! Maybe I don't consider myself a hero because of my understanding of what a hero is...to me someone is a hero when they do something heroic out of choice. To me a mother's love is not a choice...it just is. I don't even think there is much thought behind it. It's just an indescribable bond...that's the best definition that I can think of at the moment! Thanks again for reading and for your lovely reply!

Denise,
Only a mother could pen this. It tales on the essence of motherhood and is a resounding tribute. I feel honoured to have read this.

MMMMMM Im not sure I agree with your definition of a hero...someone who does something heroic out of choice...I think a hero is someone who follows their heart no matter the cost to themself...such as a mother...wonderful write here...as a mom I know just how you feel...my boys are what keeps me going

God Denise you've described this perfectly!
A mother will do anything for her kids.
What can I say but that you've brought that feeling across excellently, and done us mothers proud!
