Things were better back when we were young.
But things changed, the world was changed;
Someone went back and made history undone
Took all our memories and them rearranged.

Our days were absconded, we knew not the loss,
Filling our time with picturesque moments
Surrounded, distracted by Life's candyfloss,
Too busy to see something core was absent.

Then, in the autumn time of our lives
When only memories we had to share,
When mind and wit should be sharp as knives
We found Alzheimer's waiting there.

Alicat

Believe it or not, this started out as something completely different, but twisted under my pen about halfway through.

Oh my !

'Someone went back and made history undone
Took all our memories and them rearranged.'

I can see why this one moved your pen.
Touching.

Alicat, this is amazing I had to go back and read it a second time just to make sure I'd read it correctly the first. So glad your pen twisted into this.

I can believe that your pen twisted halfway through. From what I have read, you write what's on your mind, and this poem is no exception. IN fact, its exceptional. So true to life this poem is. I thoroughly enjoyed the read this morning in a deep thought sort of way...

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.

Marge, thank you.

Kethry, thanks. I've been going back to read this one in my notebook, and all I can say is 'Daaayuuuuummmmm....' *for the critical critic inside, that is high praise for myself*

Sonjes, yeah, pretty much. Sometimes, I write what's on my brain...other times, I record what my pen writes....

Superb writing...absolutely excellent in both message and method, Alicat. One of the best I've read, anywhere.

I'm so glad to hear, also, that someone else is inclined to follow the sometimes seemingly odd twists and turns of their pen. Wonderful work.

I used to belong to a support group for Altzheimers and now and again a few of us got miserable or stressed out with coping and a great story was posted, can't remember it exactly but it went along the lines of:

Her mother would wake each day and express delight with how yellow the daffodils were, how green the grass, how crisp the air or surprise when she opened up her purse to find £10  and so on and so on....the other side of Altzheimers where each and every moment is new and fresh..

Thanks for this Ali..
