News Reports 1999 Old Women with worn faces always crying, Villages with stones no longer standing, Young mothers with their men forever missing comfort children with blank faces never knowing. Walking through a village Shells begin to fall, I can hear a young boy crying Mama is his call. His mother cannot hear him Her eyes are open wide, But her body lies in pieces, The child is at her side. Images of graves forever gaping, Lines of people with possessions always turning, Bombs with high precision often missing As diplomats in suits go on explaining. High upon a hillside Secure behind a wall, Below me is a Township People at a market stall. The people all are smiling The sun is shining bright, I gently squeeze the trigger, Birds rise up in flight. People on a hillside while it's raining Emaciated men behind a railing Reporters taking pictures as they're talking to the fighters moving out but still defying Driving in a convey Through a land I do not know Beside me are my comrades All around me is my foe An ambush comes upon us We have nowhere left to turn Flames are all around me As my flesh begins to burn. Hello does anyone remember me? I wish I had time to get more involved in the group but at the moment it is not possible. This is something I started last year after listening to so many distressing news reports. (My children say I should try and write about something happy. I guess it is not the happy news that inspires me) It is still not finished and I realise it is not to everyone's taste. Regards Patrick |

Hello pmc.... As you say, this might not be to everyone's taste, but I find a good dose of reality to be necessary sometimes. You wrote this extremely well, and I salute you. It is unfortunate that our world is full of people who are bent on destroying each other. I did not find this distasteful at all.....just realistic, and true to life. Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! |

Thank you Sunny 1, I am glad at least one person liked it. That is perhaps one more than it deserved. Regards Patrick |
