... A lesson learnt ...

Nestled amid warmth, atop a summer tree,
Resting in a caring mother's feathered arms,
He flapped his tiny wings, feeling carefree
And sang about his morning trip to the farm.

"Dear mommy", chirped he, in a green voice,
"Morn began in love, with the kind glowing sun
Raining an amazing grace, making me rejoice,
As dewdrops to say 'Good Morning', did run".

"I perched myself, atop a loving mulberry tree
Who held me with care, gave me an arm, to rest,
I gave the branch, a friendly hug, ate a berry,
Then I took off, into the blue skies, in my quest".

"In the high blue skies, a white cloud I did befriend,
Tender hearted soul with a golden-tipped form -
Our company was brief, as he needed to ascend,
He had to fly to a faraway land, as was the norm".

"The parting of my newly found friend deeply hurt,
Causing tears to drop from my eyes as I cried,
That is when the breeze came around in a spurt,
Soaring my spirits high, giving me a free ride".

"Then I saw the farm, in the greenest of green,
Gleaming like velvet, placed upon a riverbed,
Wind kissed the grass, in a wave-like scene,
Playing with flowers, butterflies, blue and red".

"Then I was a little boy playing in the dried hay,
He seemed to be lost but was having his fun,
Felt it would be nice to greet him a good day,
I dived with spread wings to the farmer's son".

"He loved me full of joy, and fed me some bread,
We played for a while, and then, he left me in a huff,
He brought a new toy, and played with it instead
A sad, painful and hurting goodbye, 'twas so rough".

"Dear mommy, that was my day, full of events,
Some were happy while others filled with tears
But mommy, when the boy left me in torment,
I didn't cry as I'd learnt, all go after coming near".

Patting his back showering love, mommy spoke,
"Dear child, it isn't fully true, what you just said,
The ones who will love you true, with you will joke,
And in hard times, they will sing to rest you to bed".

"Now, rest a bit my little one; take a few deep breaths
For, there are many farms to see, before your death".

Oh, Sudhir......
you have captured the spirit of childhood through the eyes of nature!! Your words are so wonderful, my friend....I am delightfully surprised every time I read your thoughts!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!
