She lived her life in darkness But, somehow, she managed to grow She was the only flower That could live in shadow Although she managed to survive Without the bright day’s light Her dream was to feel the heat of day Her dream was to come out of the night She prayed constantly to feel the light Before she grew too old But all she felt, day in and out Was the shadow’s dark cold She tried to be patient and wait for the light But one day, she looked above with a cry “Why do all the flowers know the sun While I live in shadow, only to die?” No answer would come to her then She resigned herself only to know Of the things that come with the cold Of living within a shadow And one day, that seemed worse than the rest She left the cold start to leave She sighed, knowing better than this She tried hard not to believe But alas, the shadow started to lift She finally felt the sun Fast tears began to flood her eyes Her time had finally come! She opened her leaves with greatest joy To take in all the light Her heart rejoiced in happiness She was finally released from the night Although it may seem too good to be true In time, the light will come to you "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde "The robbed that smiles steals something from the thief" -Shakespea |
