(Diane inspired -thank you )

Not yet so old in my own mind
I reflect on love, its variations
Not parental nor sibling love
Romantic love, its palpitations

Love I've felt not reciprocated
Love I've viewed when two are mated
Love I've had when it's given back
Love I've sought, the kind that's fated

All so real, none can be denied
We all want it, it's worth the strive
Can we compare or say one's less
Do we wonder what to keep alive

The love I sought as youth unkempt
Was passion's love, as I thought it meant
One that would bind, would be one lasting
But that one's brief, and love gets bent

As I grew, matured I knew that love
Built on friendship, had a lasting glue
One that could survive, fitting like a glove
Yet sexes are different, I also knew

So two to be friends, must work at it
Sensitivity's needed, or we fail
Out of this comes a sense of giving
More than taking, in love does sail

It's much like the old folks in
"When Harry met Sally"
Humor of course but it
Tells us love should be 'pal-ly'

I've seen and heard seniors speak
Their love so strong, their love so deep
How they feel about their spouses
Not wanting to outlive, wanting to sleep

That's the love that I'm now seeking
With passion too and friendship reeking
A love that grows and lasts a lifetime
One that each day has higher peaking

No puppy love by itself alone
But a playful love, with a tender streak
A love that enjoys silences
Or talk when one needs to speak

A love that cuddles and hugs a lot
One that know touch on the right spot
One that loves kisses, often and sweet
A love I don't want, one that is not

So there is depth- and I want the deepest
Mutual desire grows and I think
The greatest love in the making
Give love one's all and from it don't shrink

Bill--It sounds like a wonderful kind of love to me, playful and tender, the kind I wish for you, my friend...filled up and content, but growing and comfortable with silence...

A lovely poem and sentiment!!
