Aye, lad, ‘tis late, I’ve miles to go- Ere night ‘er shroud doth spread. I fancy grog, an’ ingle nook... To rest me weary ‘ead. But, aye, I’ll drink...’ere’s to yer ‘ealth! An’ now we’ll drink to mine- An’ lad I’ll now propose a toast.... To loves we left behind! ‘Tis sad the choices men must make- Aye, oft they cause to weep. Tha’ men, their fools, go off to war, Or to some fortune seek... And bid the lass, “Be off wi’ ye! An’ break ‘er tender ‘eart... But rest assured, ‘e too will pay.. When sorrow shoots ‘er darts. Aye, drink ‘er down, I’ve miles to make- Yer comp’ny’s passin’ kind... Let’s lift one more afore I leave.... To loves we left behind! |

wow loved the language..i believe this is my first time reading your poetry...what a pleasure..i loved the imagery you have supplied..sitting in a tavern (or pub) just having a few drinks with some companions..to speak of the loved ones we leave behind...that we are the fools for doing so...truly is a great poem, enjoyed muchly ![]() "my love is my motivation my love is my inspiration perception of this poem is your interpretation" -- me |

Dear Troubadour, I believe you have done it yet again with this poignant and engaging scene ... this is grand. Here's to you! ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |
