down in the barrio wooden benches pulled up to the streets snaggle-toothed old magicians playing the six-string magic, dios wondering if you've still got what it takes to play with the big boys arpeggios and andantes flutter through the pages of your mind, looking for scores to settle in and wondering about the acoustics of an open room show till you tell the voices to shut up and let you play sweaty the girl strides into the center of the tight knit circle of rapt faces and players, shining in the incandescents and moonlight, like a sorceress, a gypsy witch or a million peso moviestar dance, maria, dance... for tonight, you are the lovely barrio maiden, the queen of the dance and i am not the King... just one of your chorus of lovers... caressing you with my fingers and my voice |
