No Moon Tonight

Sadness reigned upon that hill
And down below for all to see
The longing glances of a girl
Who wished for all there is to be.

One day she wished to fall in love
And handsome, yes, her wish came true
Like fairytales and apple pies
The sweetest taste had come her due.

Was not too long, the two were one
And on and on her dreams were met
It must have been long overdue
'Cause now surprized, she has regret.

Regret that for the years that passed
She went no where and did no thing
The country, oh so beautiful,
Laid before her, all it sings.

She sees this now, she knows it's truth
She wishes to retain that youth

Escapes her now, how this had come
An empty place, with love from none

So cried, she did and tried some more
To see what could her life, restore

And when last summer's heat appeared
A gentle whisper breezed her ear

Oh wow, she thought, in sun drenched warmth
I love this moment, the sun, the moon
I think I feel a flight on wings
A butterfly, from moth's cocoon.

And so she felt with eyes, so wide
Enjoyed surroundings, gardens all
The tads in pond becoming frogs
The fishes, flowers, nature's call.

And then one day, a brothers wish
A screen of blue and cards by air
Had brought her in and closed the door
Now all that's seen is what's on there.

She found a way to pass her days
To leave out all the hurt, and pain
The saddest thing is that for now
She has become cocooned, again.

It may not be in wrappings tight
In fact, they are quite loose this time
But every chance she gets to break
Away is fartherest, from her mind.

It's comfort she is seeking out
As words she reads, dance all about

Release of pain through other's words
Though not a whisper is ever heard

Tears of joy at times appear
And smiles, she shows from ear to ear

And other times, it's tears of pain
And hurt, at thoughts that rise again

She'll leave this time, I know she'll try
It's like that story of the train
I think I can, I think I can
Say it louder, with each refrain.

Yet, there she is, I see her still
From eyes in view, of fingers touch
A letter here, a letter there
Until a word is formed from such.

And then from words and phrases still
She tries her hand at poetry
Sometimes it hurts, sometimes relieves
But always after, she feels free.

If freedom is what life's about
And what she feels and wants to see
Free to love and share her heart
Then in her freedom she will Be.

May never travel the road she wants
May never see the beauty's delight
She'll dream her trips and write her views
And hide in dark, no moon tonight.

This is truly beautiful, Maureen.  I love the wonderful images this tips the mind into while reading it, with a slightly overcast background    lol  {{{HUGZ}}} my dear

Strive for higher levels, if they seem out of reach... Grow, and they will get closer.
