The Voice of Thunder Thunder rolling through the sky Kept awake a sleepy eye A cover wrapped to keep me warm And safe from an impending storm Then louder cried the voice of Thor “Awake, my dear, you’ll sleep no more For no one soul this night will rest Until I’m done this evening fest” A lightening spear through window pain Confirmed the threats of coming rain I huddled down into my bed With only nightmares in my head The rains came down with thunder’s roar I trembled at the voice of Thor So powerful that he would shake A sleepy soul into awake And I alone in utter fright To face the terrors of the night Would never close my eyes at all Throughout the rumblings of the squall At crack of dawn the rain was gone The sunlight slowly came along But in my heart I still could hear The sounds that made me shake in fear How childish this silly fright Of thunder clashing in the night And voices that would threaten me To make me tremble endlessly Then came a knocking at the door A neighbor, said “‘twas quite a pour That lightening burned upon your door The letters of the name of Thor” I said “I’m glad for morning’s light” He said, “You better board up tight They say a monster storm’s in sight And passing through this way tonight” I locked my windows and my door Then lay in wait the voice of Thor A captive of his threatening roar Doomed to slumber nevermore Then jolted fiercely as before I woke from dream upon the floor Shaken by the thunderous roar Of but a husband's raucous snore Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 08-16-2000).] |

Then came a knocking at the door A neighbor, said “‘twas quite a pour That lightening burned upon your door The letters of the name of Thor” sort of "Poe"ish loved the ending ..I happen to love thunderstorms as long as we aren't in the damage range... ~~soft smiles Maureen |

Then jolted fiercely as before I woke from dream upon the floor Shaken by the thunderous roar Of but a husband's raucous snore .... I am merrily giggling, and I think thats what I should be doing... wonderful writing again, Liz... |

Hello Elizabeth... I was totally mesmerized to the ending and then I couldn't help but laugh out loud!! Yes, a mate's snoring can also sound like Thor!!!! This was superb.....you are a magician with your writing!! Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! |

Liz--this is wonderful...I knew you and thunder were not friends, but you painted this so well and then the end was great, gave me a big smile, it did! |

Hi Elizabeth...You held me in suspense all through the poem! And then the ending, very precious if I might say. I will watch out for "Thor" |

Marge, What a sound, and when his brothers come for a visit, it's a vertual orchestra Thanks , Moonchild for your comments. This poem didn't turn out the way it was heading, but I just couldn't resist Sy, I only have dreams about dry blankets, and they're made of cotton Nan, not exactly comforting, I'd call it disturbing Hoot, The heavenly sound comes when 2 or 3 sing in harmony Sudhir, Glad you got a giggle. next time someone complains about your snoring, tell them it was the voice of thor ethome, Thank you for your comments. I love poems with a twist. I'm learning that from Balladeer. Glad you liked it Sunny, Yes, they do sound like thunder, don't they? Glad it made you laugh Martie, as long as you're smiling, I'm happy Kit, Seems most can relate Glad you got a little joy out of it Bill, Yes better have him sleep in the other room!. Thanks for your remarks Liz |
