A Dreamer of Dreams

She lived in a kingdom of butterfly dreams
Of fantasy notions she took to extremes
Everybody she knew, everything she would find
Became part of this magical twist of the mind

And nobody questioned the whims of a child
For her heart was so innocent, trusting and mild
She played all alone, but felt she was blessed
With an imaginary friend who didn’t really exist

But these childhood notions and wonderful schemes
Were never to change in her womanly dreams
No matter what sorrow, her spirit still smiled
For she still looked at life through the eyes of a child

And the end of the rainbow, that most never find
Was there all along in the depths of her mind
No matter how meager the things she possessed
She marvelled in wonder with what she was blessed

But she felt in her heart she was misunderstood
For her mind only saw the most splendid and good
While the burdens of life tried to tear her apart
A sense of contentment dwelled in her heart

So she lives in her dreams, which to her is the real
And the passion for living is all that she feels
But her butterfly notions led her to find
A man with a similar fantasy mind

Her lover of real is her soul mate, it seems
A teller of tales and a dreamer of dreams

Elizabeth,
The wonder of butterflies dreams,
Keeps us from many extremes.
Better the dreams then the alternate means.
Wonderful poem loved it. Love Sy

Ever So Near

What you lust for
My poet so dear
Is too close by
And ever so near

It is not I
Nor HIM you hear
Tis YOU all along

The answer is clear

You thought you heard
A magic word
In the sea you said

But what you did
Is a word you read
And a thought you bred

In your head

And out came rhyme
So full of chime
As you sang a hymn
From a heart aflame

And not from whim

So..

You see my sweet
It is your heart that’s in heat

It is not I
Nor HIM you hear
It is your heart

Ever so near

Lizzy - this is just lovely. Well done, my friend - and fantasy sometimes does open the doors to a reality - lucky are the few who find that.

Oh Elizabeth...I cry as I read this.  Every word you've written feels like you know me too well, although I know you didn't write this for me.  I feel just like the little girl you write of here.  I shake my head in dismay at how close this hits home.  It is absolutely the most beautiful piece of work I've read today!  (wiping tears as I applaude)  Thank you for helping me see me, as I've been lost for so long.  I am ignorant when awakened from my fantasy, I do fear. There is nothing quite like fantasy and believing in the magic of life. Magic that shows in everything you do and see.....lovely poem!

Love and hugs,
Lizzie
