Rejection

Rejection of a love is a rejection of a soul
Nobody can assign a price or estimate the toll
For nothing in the world comes close to causing so much pain
The spirit's been destroyed and life will never be the same

Some don't consider consequences of their selfish goals
And think a little child mind can't understand our souls
Do not be fooled by innocence, a little child is wise
He knows when love surrounds him and when love is a disguise

He senses when his life's not right, when love is growing cold
He understands our actions without ever being told
A child of only three or four is competent and wise
So evident and clear the truth in front of little eyes

And so the weight of sorrow can affect a little one
And interrupt the peacefulness of childhood dreams and fun
A little fit of anger to a child is not so small
It hurts his little tender heart and devastates us all

If one day we must change our lives, then let's not choose the worst
Consider last our selfish needs and put our children first

"Consider last our selfish needs and put our children first"

If only our world could live by those words...our children would have the kinds of lives that they are entitled to.

Thanks for the lovely read.

Chris

Elizabeth,
Another wonderful poem. I agree with the spirit and essence of what you wrote but sometimes little children can really get your goat. They are a mixture of angel and devil. And it's up to you to set the level.

You are right Liz.  Children can see right into the heart of most matters, even though they can't put words to it.  Sometimes Sy's  "devil" is a response to what is happening to the adults in their lives.  Love the insight in this poem.

This is a wonderful poem.  We have to remember that our children are the future and they learn by watching us.  Excellent Liz

They certainly do know the difference - We need to realize that people are born just as smart as they are later in life... Children are just a bit shorter and they have a lot more room in their little heads to file new input... and they do file it...

Nice work, my friend..

I was gonna say "very wise words" but Ruth already did that when i scrolled down
Talking about basics instinct here and so well presented
Hug you

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Our wee folk are precious and acutely receptive, and deserve to be nurtured in body and heart.

Such touching and insightful writing, Liz, thank you.

Liz I think this is part of the process that children go thru when their parents divorce.  The child feels rejection and feels like they are part of the problem, and of course they feel unloved and experience so many sad parts of the emotions.   Who can determine exactly how this has shaped and molded them into who they are today as an adult.  James

Absolutely right LIZ. Children see more than we think and more clearly than we know. For their hearts are not corrupted or conformed. I love your poems.

Elizabeth, my friend~
Very nicely done, my dear.
Rejections pain is most keenly felt
by the little minds and hearts of children.
They haven't yet learned how to process it and store it in the attic of their minds.
One day the attic becomes full ...
and the pain can start to tumble out so
quickly that they can't confront it, no matter how old they've become.

Speak kind words,
give strong positive reinforcement,
say tender, loving words so that they
may carry them forward.

Lizabeth ... this is really a keeper.

Excellent thoughts, Liz. Of course, kids would be a lot easier to deal with if they weren't so young......

This was a great message Liz...too many parents stay together just to say they are together for the child!! A child's mind is far beyond it's age!!! Loved this!!

So true, once again you speak a truth that it is hidden to many who have not your wisdom in their souls. Wonderful poem!

Love and hugs,
Lizzie
