THE STORM ABOUT ME

I lie awake in my bed
rain harshly pounding the patio awning.
Each little drop intent on robbing me of all sleep
as I muse over them.
Millions of them, billions perhaps,
an endless sea of souls
all of the same origin
yet separate entities now
falling headlong to their death.

I ponder needlessly.
Is it possible two of these droplets
could come together in flight?
If they did, could they stay
united until they crashed
unto the earth below as one?
I somehow doubt it.
What with winds swirling about,
ever in a raging storm
torn from the world they once knew
the world that was shared amongst them
How could it be?

Lightning blasts
ceremoniously across the sky.
For a brief second
I can vividly see the world around me.
Then nothing,
nothing but darkness.
I close my eyes
in hopes to recapture the vision
and I count to myself.
One thousand one.
There, lightning strikes once more.
The vision never clearly pictured in mind
lost to a glare of red
behind yet still unopened eyes.

Michael, I have never seen the rain that way. It seems so sad. Your words are beautiful. Thanks for sharing!   -SEA

Rain comes when angles cry
So they told me when I was a kid
I guess a lot of angles must have cried
and all those tears have died
This only can mean one thing for you
And that is that the sun will soon shine too
Nice poem with so much thought about a simple event that nature presents.
Well done
And Wizzard you are right, what the heck
Happy V-Day  )

This really touched me. Storms have always meant something to me. Usually memories and often times storms have been a symbol of terrible anxiety. This seemed to touch on that. Very nice poem.

Michael~

the thunderous memories remain.
We gather and share the sunrays
until the next coming of the rain.

I loved this, Michael, especially your "ponderings" about the possibilities of two from the same beginning, falling separately, becoming one in motion and traveling to their end...a lovely metaphor. A striking title, also.

Micheal, Time and distance might help this storm, or just wade right in and call to the rain maker and ask how this storm ends. You may already know the answer, but I you're not getting a direct answer to your hopes than maybe the rain maker is just as confused. Ask and you shall know. If all those emotions were true, then you owe it to each other to be clear, fair and truthful. The fair thing to do is to make things very clear, and accept the final answer. Then maybe the friendship can be salvaged, but acceptance is a must on your part. I feel your pain, been their. Otherwise just disregard what I just said as the wisdom of a fool.
Good luck, and may the rain maker who's always watching clear up this storm for you.

Well I must admit I still find it suprising my free verse is so readily accepted here.  You all are probably just feeling sorry for me, huh?

Wizzard, doors will always open I am sure, but walking through them is where the problem will lie for me.

Devina, there many other things, (better things), I'd just assume be dwelling on at night...LOL  Hopefully soon I will be writing of sunshine and smiles instead of rain and tears.

HelmutB, I think I'm probably any angel's most feared assignment.  I doubt many would cry for me.

christies heart, Storms have always been quite symbolic of the world of emotion I live in.  Dark and raging...many times uncontrollable and almost always with those I share my life with just wishing for the storm to pass, even though by all factors, I am the storm they are wishing away.  I'm glad you could relate so well to this poem.

Marge, walking in such Darkness it's easy to get lost.  I fear there will be none to guide me to the sunrays you speak of.

Haleyja, of all the things I hold to be true, which isn't much at this point, I never will doubt the Rainmaker or the path He has set before me.  No matter what pains I have endured or have yet to endure, I know so long as I don't turn my back on Him, I will know what true love feels like in the end.

Thank you everyone else for the compliments and replies.

This is sensitive strong verse Michael - and I really like it - and am touched by it.

an endless sea of souls
all of the same origin
yet separate entities now
falling headlong to their death.

Such a lovely description!

Your portrayal is wonderful...

I have always loved the rain...
how sometimes invigorating...other times well matched with a somber mood...

but mostly ...how rain washes away the old layers of life and leaves everything freshly cleansed...almost purified...

Another one of my goofy thoughts... )

I like your thought about

"Is it possible two of these droplets
could come together in flight?
If they did, could they stay
united until they crashed
unto the earth below as one?"

I'll have to watch, really really closely..

I have never seen the rain quite so sadly before. I am sorry for whatever storm rages in your life right now mIchael, believe me I am making my way slowly through one or two of my own.  ) I would like to remind you one of the best things about the rain, one of the things I lov emost, is how fresh and crisp and clean and NEW the air is when its over. Hugs my friend.
