*I wrote this from a parents perspective...not American, not Cuban....just a parent who would travel a million miles to find her child and take him home.... (For Elian at the center) Ripped from my arms, flung to sea My son, child of my breast Taken like a bag of salt ‘you knew’ what was best? Death claimed you and I’m sorry I would not wish it so But he is my son too, so Please! Let Elian go! I understand your motives You seek freedom for my son But you forget I am his father He shall have only one. Keep your arms open to him Future times may see him here But for now let him come to me I love him, never fear. Right now he needs me More than you can know Let me give him all my love Please! Let my child go. |

Amen. Wonderfully done, Pdv. There is no concievable length I would not go to for my son. Nor can anyone put a word to just how much a son needs his father. This poem really touches home with me. michael |

Well done PDV. And I have to say that I agree with you whole-heartedly! "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde |

BRAVO deVine!! This is a truly inspired piece. . . it would seem that in all the political manuvering and such. . . that we have forgotten that there is a father and child that should be together. . . Well done PdV. This whole situation makes me sick. I dont understand how people, in this day in age, can be so fervently anti-communist. It has been properly demonstrated that communism isnt going to spread and take over the world. Communism isnt an "evil" form of government, it actually works quite well in theory, just not in practice. I cant even begin to imagine the emotional problems this kid is going to have because of all this. He is thrust in front of cameras all day long, not allowed to live a normal life.. sigh... when will people learn? |

PoetdeVine~ Sharon ... every time I see or hear anything about Elian's case in the media ... the one thought that pervades my thoughts is that he has a FATHER that loves him. Give him back to his father ! I'm not trying to be political at all about this ... just emphatic ... the good old USA, that I love, needs to quit playing election-year politics and give that boy back to his father ! How dare we attempt to interfere with the rights of that father. Damn our political system for always assuming we know more than others. For this separation to have gone on for so long is ludicrous. I applaud your statements. Heart-felt ... and right ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Children needn't be torn among those who love them... I've always contended that there's enough love for everybody.... I definitely give that dad credit for doing everything he can for his child... and to you for speaking so eloquently for him, PdV.. |

When I think of all the children out there who do not have a father it breaks my heart to see our government trying to keep Elian away from his. There simply is no excuse for the behaviour of this country's leaders. Maybe if it was their son they would see things in a different light. Jeffrey |

Unbelievable It fells like you came to my life today and wrote this poem. Because today I heard that my uncle's first and new-born child had died! I can't tell you how much you touched my heart!! I'm sending this poem to him right away!! "Only in the dreams , is that man can truly be free It was always thus and always thus will be" Prof. Keating Dead Poets Society |
