I linger there upon your shore
And long to linger...evermore
And gaze...forever...at your sea
-Such captivating majesty.

Your rolling waves crash on the rocks
And dance about your weathered docks;
Gulls swoop and soar above each crest
Inviting me to dream...to rest.

Your 'Lovely Ladies' line each street
And charm the hearts of all they meet
And bid them graciously to stay;
Abide beside the ocean spray.

I long to gaze upon your sea
-Such captivating majesty;
Upon your shore I long to stay
Forever...always...fair Cape May.

(Note: the 'Lovely Ladies' are beautiful Victorian homes for which Cape May is famous.)

Thank you, Rebecca and SEA for reading and for your kind comments!

(I wish I could read and reply to more poetry but things seem to be getting worse. I have been trying to get back into the Forums for about an hour and I was just now able to. Sooooo frustrating.)

Goodnight everybody

D~
Nice poem. I think that you are missing the smell of the water though. The sea has that certain smell - you can almost taste it, don't you agree? Also, the second line contains "linger" a word you've used on the first line. Perhaps, "My gaze lingers on your shore, My eyes long to drink it evermore" or something even more catchy?
Tinker around a little bit more, I think
best regards,
bboog

Denise ... I can see why you are excited
If it's half as nice as you've portrayed
here ... then I know you'll have a wonderful day
Beautiful poem

Thank you bboog, Rex and Seymour! Glad you all liked it!

bboog- there's nothing like the smell of the sea, that's for sure....perhaps another poem in the works to capture that! I purposely (I rarely repeat a word in a poem) used the word linger that way for emphasis...to catch the sense of my desire to never leave. I like your suggestions though they are good! Perhaps I will use them too in another poem! Thank you for the inspiration! I need some!

Rex- it's even more beautiful than words can capture! Thanks!

Sy- Thank you so much!

Denise...this absolutely sings itself instead of being read. By the way, I can't wait to see those 'Lovely Ladies' with you
