An opinion Writing poetry as I post Is what I like to do the most It's not the best by any means But I've got rhythm, so it seems I don't mind a good critique Learning more is what I seek But I would simply like to say That rhyme and meter's my forte So please don't throw more words at me It throws my meter off, you see I like suggestions, that is fine But don't mess with my perfect time Now as for Martie's splendid verse It's just about the best on earth Her perfect verse and perfect prose Are perfect dew on a perfect rose Would you teach a priest to pray? Or teach the sun to light the day? Then how can you improve the best That goes beyond the greatest quest For Martie's work is so superb In perfect phrase and perfect word That when I read suggested change My mind became a bit deranged A poet's poem, when it is done Should not be changed by anyone Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth, my friend~ I concur with this lovely rendering. The things I write also come from my heart and fall by design to the page. Wonderful volley fired for a friendship. I admire your spunk. Your rhymes and rhythms are the best But that's not poetry's only test - Word choice and meter are but a part Of poetry written from the heart. How I applaud your sentiment And know your friendship's heaven sent! Wonderful poem, Elizabeth... long may you and Martie grace these forums with your beautiful words so perfectly written! |

Asking for a critique is one thing. Getting it when not asking for it is another. I agree. Our poems to us are like our children. If you don't have anything kind to say, don't say anything. Good one, Liz! Denise |
