Author's Note: Here's another one of my nature poems... The Tempest It rained outside my house, today: A downpour from the sky, That saturated Mother Earth, 'Til nothing was left dry. The lightning crackled gleefully - The thunder laughed aloud, As rainclouds filled the firmament: A black, forbidding shroud. I thought that nothing good could come From such a violent storm - It seemed to pound the world, in rage, Intending only harm. Yet, wonder soon replaced my fear - For, when the storm was through, I saw that it had cleansed the earth And left it bright and new. The rain had been a friend to Earth, Though it had seemed a foe: The minerals it left behind Would help the plants to grow. It rained within my soul, today - The raindrops were my tears. My heart was wracked with aching pain; My mind was filled with fear. The jagged lightning of despair Sliced blithely through my dreams, As clouds of deepest sorrow Blotted out my self-esteem. Again, I thought the angry storm Could surely bear no good. It seemed bent on destroying me - I almost wished it would! Yet, when the rain was over, Fragile peace began to grow. Bright hope dispelled the rainclouds, And set my soul aglow. My heart still knows some pain - and, yet, I know that it shall mend. My cleansing tears have given me The strength to live, again. -Troy J. Hoecherl- © Troy J Hoecherl All Rights Reserved Beautiful, Thought-Provoking Poetry http://www.h-systems.net/p1.htm |
