Half an aisle, half an aisle, Half an aisle onward, Into the produce section, Pushed the lone stranger, Forward the shopping cart, "Charge for the yams," he said, Pushed, though wished he was dead. Forward the lone stranger, Was he 'ware of the danger? Not tho' he knew, For he had blundered, Forgotten the list, By death would be kissed, He would not be late, Would rather test fate, Into the produce section, Pushed the lone stranger. Pedal pushers right of him, Curlers to left of him, Rutabagas in front of him, Ashen and shaken, Bombarded with whispers and stare, Boldly he pushed, and well, Into the jaws of gossip, Into the mouths of hell, Pushed the lone stranger. Flashed silver his thinning hair, Flashed fear from their stare, Smiling at widow there, Squeezing a mushmelon, while All the clerks wondered, Pushed by tomatoes, Right by the potatoes, Redheads and blondes, Tried not stare at their clothes, Muttered and sworn, Then he pushed back, but not With the corn. Pedal pushers right of him, Curlers to left of him, Rutabagas in front of him, Ashen and shaken, Bombarded with whispers and stare, Would our hero dare? He would never tell, That he had shopped so well, Came through aisles of beans, Back from the mouths of gossip, With grapes and a turnip, Pushed cart of lone stranger. Will husband's glory fade? Valiant effort he made, From out of store's danger, Praise shopping trip he made! Noble stranger! My humble apologies to Lord Tennyson. [This message has been edited by Mike (edited 04-08-2000).] |

Mike, I would have to think that our dear Alfred would be smiling at this one, without a doubt. Noble shopping stranger... So clever...and well done, might I add! ~ Claire |

Tennyson for our times! Wonderful, Mike. You could become a professional shopper! By the way, what did you wear? |

Mike~ Such fear amidst the shopping aisle put upon our face a smile. I'm grinning at the very thought of all the things that you bought. Sounds a bit vegetarian fare and wonder at the bargains there. A happy trip ... so to speak and you get to do it EVERY week ! Thanks for the fun. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

He he he! This reminded me of some of the people I see at my work (I'm a cashier in a grocery store!). Someone's always saying that they forgot one item and will be right back, or asking where to find whatever, or how much is this item. In fact, yesterday the same guy came through my lane three times because he forgot two of the items on his list (which he didn't even look at)! Very funny, Mike, thanks for the smile! Elizabeth I'm grabbing my hat and coat I'm leaving the cat a note Quick call me a ferry boat-getting out of town! |
