Comes forth the Spring in verdant glory, Time of Lent, of Easter's story, Greening of the Kansas plains, Begat of Eostre's birthing rains, Demeter unto to us does render, Fertile plains of natural splendor, Winter wheat from earth does waken, As newborn fawn, first steps are taken, Behold the vernal equinox, Night and day of equal clocks, Resurrection, flowers bloom, Comes forth the Spring, from Winter's tomb. Helios bakes the Kansas plains, Long since void of cooling rains, Summer's sun in cruel attack, Beating down on farmer's back, Cattle in the pond a cooling, Young boys catch sun perch a schooling, Lazy summer afternoons, In cool of night, the bullfrog croons, July the 4th, the big parade, Watch from the porch, pink lemonade, Fireflies, a wished for breeze, Cicadas sing night's symphonies. Vicissitudes of summer's flight, Wings of geese at frost's first bite, Pumpkins ripened on the vine, As hunter's moon, above does shine, Fiery blaze of autumn's glory, Portends Persophene's purgatory, Cornucopias of fruited plain, Bounties of Demeter's grain, Verdant valleys, rising mist, Sleeping flora by Helios kissed, As zephyr warms a cooling land, Last vestige of hot summer's hand. From Kansas plains, the autumn flees, Frost's crystal flakes kiss barren trees, Sans summer clothes, shed weeks ago, Before iced thrust, of winter's snow, On garden's path, God's palette faded, Landscape brown, and spirits jaded, Hued petals to the earth returned, Bright tints of life, the cold has spurned, Persophones to depths is taken, As mankind waits with faith unshaken, Within her arms, the primrose flowers, Rebirth of life, come springtime showers. I can see this poem gracing the walls of the judge's chambers..... hehe....  I like it all - but this part best... "Behold the vernal equinox, Night and day of equal clocks, Resurrection, flowers bloom, Comes forth the Spring, from Winter's tomb." Nice job, Mike... |

Oh wow - and to think I almost skipped over this since I've never been too impressed with Kansas....LOL But heck, I'm with Liz here, makes me want to rent a U-Haul and just move right next door!  On a serious note, I've never read so many "beautifully descriptive" words in one poem! I am in awe at your being in awe!  I love how you took each season, and brought it to life...although the part that made me want to move there, was without a doubt the 4th of July, the parade from the front porch, and pink lemonade...Gives me the warm fuzzies just thinking about it. LOL Fabulous read sir, as I should have known it would be. |

Michael- glad you enjoyed. Supposed to get up to 80 hear today, so spring definately is birthing around here. Thanks for the very gracious comments. Liz- Thanks so much. We do have plenty of wide open spaces... *smile* honestly, when I go back east, I feel a little claustrophobic with all the trees. Ms. deVine- we Kansans try and keep it a secret...hehe... feel free to visit anytime, generally we Kansans are pretty friendly Nan- Chambers? danke... *smile* Ruth- thank you kindly for the BOLD comment... hehe Ms. Femme... thank you kindly for the comments... btw... how could one not be impressed with Kansas... Wow! Mike this is an impressive poem. I love to travel and I tried to get to Kansas by clicking my heels but it didn't work...now, thanks to you I have been there..thank you. |
