The Gift

kindness offered freely,
a broad shoulder on which to cry
it is amazing how strong a friend can be
to lighten your load and lift your spirits
a heart felt smile can change your day

a hug given unconditionally is always returned
you cannot give a hug without receiving one
to wrap someone in a caring embrace
is a gift that cannot compare with riches
for it can touch the soul and be cherished forever

compassion truly felt and gifted from the heart
to cry tears with you and share in your pain
to dry your eyes and help you smile again
to offer advice no matter how feeble
and listen with ears that truly hear

understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses
words not needed to explain
we can walk along together
feeling comfort in each other's presence
and acceptance for who we are

these feelings are a gift
a bond that's strong and true
they are not given lightly  and stand the test of time
the gift is called true friendship
and i give this gift to you

This touched my heart...in the last few days I have seen so many displays of friendship offered to me through my request of prayers for Shane.  Your poem is beautiful and so well done...my favorite if I HAD to pick though I loved it all..

compassion truly felt and gifted from the heart
to cry tears with you and share in your pain
to dry your eyes and help you smile again
to offer advice no matter how feeble
and listen with ears that truly hear

Amazing....thank you for sharing this.

Catherine~
It's plain to see that you have
the 'gift' of a beautiful friendship.
Wonderfully written.

A rare and beautiful gift is that of true friendship. You have expressed that so well.

I love this poem. I think it is one of your best.  The first time I read it*seems like a long time ago* it almost brought tears, and touched my heart. Truly, everyone that knows your are lucky for they have a Grand Treasure...*BS*

Daniel

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, not the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship."
