The Simple Grace of Going

I can see his skin crumbling
for dust is coming
and this pouring tear
cannot quench this truth.

He sleeps in clouded peace
lulled by elixirs
that dull the brilliance
of his pain-filled sweetness.

In trust he has given me
his arm's strength
and kissed me with his smile
until I am raw weeping.

Still his love lights up
and bursts in strong survival
that time and space can only embrace
with encompassing compassion.

I see him folding into
this heart song that swollows me
and I want to scream let loose
let loose of this stinging.

Just let me soak in his breath
for it fills me with potent peace
and takes each moment sweetly
from this tenderness that loves me

complete and uninterrupted
and with simple grace of going.

Martie,
This is one of your most splendid works, written from the heart, coming out of the truth experienced in life and of never ending love. Your "raw weeping" is in sadness and also in joy. The slight moments of smiling are of the exquisite kind, and will live forever.
This is one beautiful and unforgettable poem

Oh, Martie, I see a familiar heartbreak unfolding before my eyes.  How poignantly tender you write!  "I see him folding into
this heart song that swallows me", and "complete and uninterrupted and with simple grace of going."
I'm so terribly sorry for your grief.  I truly care.

Martie, I know no one who can say things the way you do. We can all use the same alphabet but you do things with it that I can only smile at in awe. Another brilliant work....

I had a good friend I met in '66. In the early 70's he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. A handsome man - I visited him daily in the hospital as often as I could. I watched him waste away and it brokemy heart. Gordon left a wife and 5 children - Margaret and I remained friends to this day - she has a house on cape cod and she came to Penny's funeral. I believe I will always have trouble dealing with Cancer. I don't know how you did it.

Everytime I read something new I had not read, I feel like I am from another planet, for this is not the same language I speak surely?  Martie, it is like you squeeze the life out of each letter, forming a new word to birth.  I respect your writing more than you will ever realize m'friend.
