Beauty Thrown in the Face of Sadness Disappointment had supplanted lighter pieces of wardrobe, as slivers of many rising suns escaped nets of memory. This day had marched in languished steps behind so many sibling clones, ignoring the wonder that lives in seconds. Clinging to an indulgent sullenness, I almost failed to catch the tones - the cautious, natural smile that graced her words. Her simple message played for me, promising nothing more than now - nothing less than a magical chance to reclaim my day - to discard the mask of elusiveness that I had painted over acceptance. We met. We rode in silence, in laughter, in silence again. Two white-tailed deer answered our silence with their own - seemed to measure the sincerity of our presence. A hapless, trail-shy dog, some great distance to our rear, triggered well honed alarms. The white tails bounced across the meadow. She simply breathed, "Oh! How beautiful!" Her smile embraced my mood, dressed it in alchemy, bounded over my day, and waltzed us into clouds. © RAM |

Very descriptive! And romantic as well. I liked it. Elizabeth "He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him!" -The Crucible |

'She simply breathed, "Oh! How beautiful!"' and it is! In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. (ee cummings) |

thank you Elizabeth, Martie, Denise and Mike. This was one of those "challenge poem" kind of things, that I did last Fall. Hmmmmmm I used to have a copy lying around here somewhere that shows me the date - October, I think. Anyway, we were supposed to use the line "beauty thrown in the face of sadness" somewhere in a poem. It struck me as being a great title, so that's where it landed. Thanks, again. Rick |

Rick, what a wonderful poem - so beautifully expressed! I saw the deer, heard the dog, and felt the magic of the moment and the warmth of your togetherness. Thank you for brightening my day! Troy Beautiful, Thought-Provoking Poetry http://www.h-systems.net/p1.htm |
