LISTEN

Listen, listen, someone singing,
I hear the voices through the trees.
Words far beyond me, sweetly bringing
Joy to heart and heart to ease.

Listen calmly, someone's weeping,
I hear echoes of rolling tears.
Red-rimmed eyes honing the seeping,
Precious, liquid remembered years.

Listen intently, is that laughter,
Or the eldritch shriek agony esteems?
It's so hard to tell just what you're after
When emotions make it to extremes!

Listen anxiously, sirens are screaming,
Piercing the silence of midnight's sleep.
In shades of black, thoughtless dreaming,
Consciousness fades, raw emotions creep.

Listen tearfully, someone's dying.
Hear the body give way to the soul?
By the brushing wings of angels flying,
With a soft chime, distant bells toll.

Listen, wait a minute, now it's gone.
For a moment sweet music touched my ears.
A splendid, melodious liaison,
Revealing my deepest God-given fears.

Listen quietly, can you hear it?
Silence, oh, what a wonderful sound.
Serenity, why would you fear it?
Born of death, Life's spirit thrives unbound.

Listen, in peace, to the wind whispered verse.
Glide with the voices through the trees.
To a place where anger and pain disperse,
Ride away on the slow-moving breeze.

Michael Anderson

For all behind was dark and drear,
And all before was night and fear.
How many hours of night or day
In those suspended pangs I lay,
I could not tell; I scarcely knew
If this were human breath I drew.

Lord Byron

this incredible breeze wafted through my open window...

Lovely food for dreams...thanks to you, again as always...and a sleepy serenity smiles...

You've filled my heart with peace and hope with your words.  There's none that write like you Michael....I'm once again amazed by the beauty in which you write with.

Michael~
Thank you for this beautiful poem.
I can tell you that it touched my heart
with a special remembrance of my
dear mother on this morning.

'Listen tearfully, someone's dying.
Hear the body give way to the soul?
By the brushing wings of angels flying,
With a soft chime, distant bells toll.'

Michael,
I've been listening, and your poetry is singing in this verse.

Wonderful poem.

Singing indeed, this has the quality and feel of a lullaby my friend.  Quite lilting and soft, how lovely!

May I never be too busy to help another's load,
Then I'll be drinking from the saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

nice one Michael.  I especically like the "precious liquid" image and the last stanza.

Another sense that, when used to its fullest, can bring us peace.  If we but learn to listen, to see - the most wonderful lessons are all around us, aren't they?

Thanks,
Rick

To listen is to hear the breath of all life.

Your poem is full of wonder, Michael...I can easily hear its beauty.

Serenity, Always happy when I can make you smile.  I hope you had wonderful dreams.

Butterflies_dont_cry, I'm glad you found the peace and hope in this message. Was hoping this poem wouldn't be misinterpreted.

Lizzie, Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed this piece.

Marge, Likewise, I was reflecting on my father when I wrote this.

Corinne, much is missed when we don't "slow down to smell the roses" - so to speak.

Satiate, are you saying my poem put you to sleep?...

Rick, Indeed, it's amazing what one can discover just by listening.  If I had to choose, I honestly would give up my sight before my hearing...

Claire, And that breath is all around us... I'm glad you hear it too.

Dolphins3, welcome back...  I'm so glad you enjoyed.

Thank you all for the kind replies.

Michael

Take me away, I'm ready for a place like this...

Listen, in peace, to the wind whispered verse.
Glide with the voices through the trees.
To a place where anger and pain disperse,
Ride away on the slow-moving breeze.

Just wonderful Michael!

Apparently this portion of your well-written poem was a hit to most who've read it - it struck me as the centerpiece of your work, and it calmed any fears I might ever have about leaving this good earth to go to a better place.  Well, well done, dear sir.
