state of confusion

What colors does he see,
behind obsidian eyes,
what of the moon’s glow,
the pinks of a sunrise?

Does the rainbow’s spectrum shine
in a prism of darkness?
I shall never comprehend
his world of sightlessness.

When he listens to music,
what does he picture there?
and when he touches me,
what does he have to compare?

I turn to ask the question,
but before I speak a word,
he replies its imagination,
that fills his sightless world.

He envisions what I cannot,
and has employed other senses,
like seeing secret thoughts,
all done without pretences.

He takes my hand in his,
again reading my mind,
explains that he knows peace,
it’s God’s gift to the blind.

The spectrum of his world,
is not for me to understand,
a language of inner motion,
paints the portrait of this man.

I find I’m counting blessings,
that he considers me his friend,
even though I made assumptions
our love he still defends.

Beautifully written, Corinne. Sometimes it seems that sightless people can "see" better than we can. They are able to view others by heart, not appearance. Good poem, Corinne

Sight is merely the vision of perspective.

I really enjoyed this poem, Corinne. You've quite a unique way of seeing things, yourself.

You open some very interesting questions here. Does it give them a piece that we can't see, and how would love a first sight be defined. They would see the person, when we just see a physical image.

Great poem..... Corinne

Corinne~
Absolutley brilliantly and sensitively done.
The sightless have an innate ability to 'see' beyond the fabricated exterior facade of many.
They seem to sense the 'in' of us
that sometimes we try to crevice away.

Looking within your heart - you have a precious friend.

So beautiful and so true, Corinne.  It does indeed seem that those seeing with only their hearts see much better than many of us seeing with our eyes.

It is, indeed, a wondrous gift, a true blessing, when we are allowed the peace that comes with true sight.  If we could all learn to use that kind of vision, just imagine what we could do.  All too often, I think our way of seeing ensures that we can't see the forest for the trees.  It's a generalization to say the following, I know, but a favorable one: I believe many Native American peoples learned to use both kinds of vision in kind of a seamless combination.

Wonderful insight, Corinne.  Wonderful poem.

Very nice, Corinne -
My experiences with people who must live their lives without one of their senses are mostly limited to the deaf.  Sightless people haven't had an integral place in my life.  There are certainly similarities in their approach to life, though... You've done a great job of capturing their feelings here...
