First the Wedgewood Baptist Church
Where a madman came to kill
My wife worshipped there long ago
But we go elsewhere by God's will

Tonight Fort Worth again a loss
A tornado rocked downtown
It was so quiet I was there
Calm and peaceful not a sound

We left Calvary Academy
Rushing my three kids out the door
The rain was coming I told them
Hopefully rain and nothing more

Ten past the hour when I drive off
My kids kidding about their day
But at fifteen past the hour
Their little preschool blew away

Nice work here.   God keeps us safe even when we don't realize it. I'm glad of that.

Walt God sure is watching out for you and yours. I'm really glad you're okay! What a blessing to have missed it! I told ya the number 5 is GRACE didn't I?  That's just what saved you my friend! God bless you!
Give them kids a big huge hug and be thankful you're around to tell about it!

Terifying isn't it?  A couple of weeks ago, my kids' daycare called to say a tornado had touched down and was headed towards the school so they were evacuating.  I was in a meeting and didn't get the message.  Thankfully, a coworker (whose child goes to the same daycare) did get it.  She rushed otu to pick up our kids.  After the meeting, someone asked where Julie went in such a rush.  I shrugged.  Figured it was somethign personal.  Then someone else told me about the tornado.  I was shaking so badly, I couldn't pick up my keys.  I was trying to get out the door to go save my babies.  They had to literally hold me down so they could tell me that Julie was getting them.  I'd never been so scared in all my life.

God is watching over you..and still has unfinished work for you..You're  all still here for a greater purpose..Your poem hits home how fragile life can be.

i posted this the night of the Wedgewood Shootings just 6 months ago

This Just In

I lay quite numb beside my wife
Breaking news broke through the den
Watching TV in our humble life
The media frenzy called us in

The banner said eight shots were fired
I nudged my wife and began to rise
"Another fool I'm sick and tired"
But I was drowned amidst her cries

I sat back down and watched amazed
Faces flashed by that I once knew
The church where my wife was raised
A killer lay slumped in the pew

Live reports with nothing real to say
Plastic men pretending they care
Columbine seemed so far away
I never thought I'd be taken there

funny how now i would not know of my close fate w/o help from the telly

I'm so glad you and your family are safe! I heard about this and felt shock that it could happen in downtown Ft. Worth! Thank God!

Walt...very powerful image here...I know the weather in that part of the country, as well as some of the kooks that run around.

Very sad and maudlin...though I do like the craftsmanship and the way you wove this story of loss together.

Keep up the good work, my friend.

Walt, This gave me goosebumps when you first told me, and it has managed to again as you wrote this so well. I am so glad God was with you and your family, and kept you safe.

You were certainly carried by the hand of God. Sometimes what we consider close calls are not close at all. He has things under control. Liz

A tornado hit our home when I was a very small child... the terror was palpable and unforgettable even to someone too young to fully understand what was going on. *S* We were all safe... even the dog... and now, I'm so very thankful you and your family are also safe!!!

I'm glad you and your children are safe and my heart goes out to the families of the ones who died so tragically by the tornado and also the ones who died in the school bus accident at the Georgia/Tennessee border. So much tragedy yesterday.
