I stood in line at the Pearly Gates
waiting my turn to enter there
wondering if I would be turned away
and saying a little prayer.

Two men before me were consigned
to the fiery depths of hell
one a lawyer of some renown
the other one named Fidel.

I stood up next and prepared
to be questioned on what I wrote
after all those naughty poems,
surely, I would be smote.

My record held in Angel’s wing
he perused it with great care
scratched his head and asked me
Please, to wait right there.

I waited nervously and thought
I'd be told hell is where I'm bound
then all around there came
a booming, laughing sound.

A light approached from everywhere
and before me stood one so grand
I immediately fell to my knees
and kissed His Godly hand.

“Will I be sent to fiery depths
to burn forever more
Have I not done some good in life
to avoid that hellish shore?”

He smiled at me and took my hand
and said that I should know
Heaven’s gates are always open
That’s where all poet’s go!

Wow, I was in suspense through this and got to the last line and felt overwhelming peace.
Thanks for the splendid trip through your poem to the peace of God. I love it.

Well, you had in suspense there for as you know I have written a few of those poems myself!!!  This was an excellent journey showing the grace and love of God.  I just love the last stanza!!!

Well. . . .

Does that mean "Jonathan Swift" who rot "A Beatiful Young Nymph Going To Bed" will be there too..?

I liked the poem, and then, reading the comments, I had to howl with laughter, remembering that astounding, hilarious, colorful gem by Jonathan Swift (1667 - 1745) - if you guys haven't read it, you really should - it begins:
"Corinna, Pride of Drury-Lane,
For whom no Shepherd sighs in vain;"
and I don't think there's another one like it on the face of the earth!

Good DeVine. . .'cause if you're going to hell then I would surely be right behind you!!!

This was a great poem. . . I think people have always wondered if poets were *ahem* "Divinely inspired"!

Do you care what is thought by others about you
