Rumors

I heard the other day from a friend
Of a friend who knows a friend
No names…….
You know about whats her name
And that guy, the cute one!
Well you know whats going on
With them don’t you……
No way, how do you know.
I heard it from a good source….
Oh my gawd!
I gotta call my friend!

In Poet land,
Assumptions so often fuel that fan,
200 minds, dissecting every line,
so often wrong most of the time.
Only the poet knows for sure,
And she ain’t telling……
No kiss and tell here folks,
But look at that post,
He’s got a secret I know,
Gossip, gossip, gossip,
The circle has begun
Everybody come indulge in the fun.

Tragedy, romance, love,
Its very sad, so sad,
Ahh, Sheriee, where have you been,
In the night are you the one I dream of,
The words of life we weave,
Interpretations, fiction, surreal,
Hey whats going on here,
Whats the real deal…..
I know! And I’m not telling,
Na na nana na.

Rumors Rumors Rumors,
I’ll tell her a secret,
She’ll tell it to,
A brand new meaning,
When it reaches you.
Ah, but I like this better,
A little tweak here,
A little tweak there,
All that impromtoe flair,
(did you read that its about Toe)
ka-ching….. hot off the rumor mill presses
get yours now, before the story changes.

Any rumors you’ve heard about me,
Have been greatly exaggerated,
Except the part about my……….

take care, jm

Do you live by the book, do you play by the rules
Do you care what is thought by others about you
If this day is all that is promised to you
Do you live for the present, the future the past...

Janet, I just wrote this to make fun of it all, and maybe through a little confusion into the mill. Hope is a good thing, and nobody knows for sure what will happen or could happen, dreams are dreams until they become real. I'm a big dreamer, and I've got my dreams and I won't tell. No, not me. So look deep, maybe just maybe theres more then just poetry in those words. If you read every second line and every third word you'll know.....

Since we are a community here, we do have this problem sometimes...often I write a poem using a phrase someone gave me or that I overheard..maybe the secret is to do a brief descriptive paragraph of why the poem was written?

Poet deVine, noway... that would give away too much. Best advice is do the sidestep, keep the mystery.

In responce to the poem well written in today's society.

Just the twist of the knife,
Just a little whispered word.

Not meant to do much,
But still entises hurt.

Who is to blame,
Who started it all.

No one can tell,
But they might be presuaded to call.

The stab goes in deeper,
And deeper in still.

And all by the run,
Of that damned rumor mill.

(*wink*  Dunno about you but I've felt like this before)

You have described it perfectly...and in good style. I could imagine while reading this that it was being from the stage to an audience....maybe in an old '60's coffee house. Very good, down to earth, work.

By the way, all rumors about Toe are true!!!

Windrider Silverbreeze, thank you nice response.

Balladeer, thank you, and yes I suspected those about Toe.

Claire, can't hide on that wall and write beautiful poetry without getting talked about. Wallflowers always hang in groups, the best rumor mills.

devina, so your saying when it comes to the mouth, size does matter. I'll have to visit adult and learn more on this....

thanks for all your responses....

Parker...rumors and words do fly here as well as outside of here. You've done a good job relaying that

Tess, If it made you laugh then my work here is done.... unless it was a nervous laugh at which I must say what are you hiding we'll find out. Were all watching and if we can't we'll make it up as we go. That's the beauty of it no need to put yourself out, we'll take care of it.

Denise, but they are there, between the lines, waiting to be brought to life. They grow like an uncontrolled virus, infecting every mind and changing to suit their reader.
I think I'm losing it!

for some reason, this real Oldie comes to mind:

    incommunicado

nodding heads
nodding in rhyme
each one waiting
to speak its mind

you don't have to listen
you don't have to learn
just nod your head
and wait your turn

also, that cute little song from The Music Man comes to mind.

Parker,
I got some laughs out of this one. I don't know about rumors, but I think it's hilarious the way my poetry is interpreted sometimes, the assumptions that are made when a poetic phrase is taken literally. I don't correct them, I just let people think what they may and just keep writing my poetry.
But this poem was so well written and a delight to read. Thanks
