“The Traveler Remembered” What’s ‘at ye say, “Toledo made”? Aye! Ye’ve an eye fer steel… An’ if it weren’t ill fortune- I’d let ye ‘ave a feel. But long ago I ‘eard it said- “Yer wallet er yer wife- Ye might let others ‘andle- But yer weapon is yer life”. Aye! I’m a soljer man, me lad- I’ve been off to the wars- Me dreams reflect the conflicts, An’ me body bears the scars. I’ve fought fwer many banners- Fer coin an’ fer acclaim- An’ in another time an’ place- I ‘ad another name. Ah, yes, I’ve seen a site o’ years An’’ been a site o’ miles- I’ve loved a lot o’ ladies, An’ I’ve ‘ad a lot of smiles. Adventure is me potion- Wha’ stirs me ‘eart to flame… I’ll not be no inn keeper- Wi’ a blowsy, blatherin’ dame. I’d rather weild me trusty blade, An’ fall before the foe- An’ slay an escort for me trip- Ere they can lay me low. I ‘ad a boon companion- Wha’ used to share me ale- ‘e’d smile an’ wet ‘is whistle- Then yarn a Traveler’s Tale. ‘e’s done gone on ‘tis what I ‘ear- Some cowards laid ‘im low- ‘pon a lonely Scottish road… Jus’ why I dinna know… I oft expect, when on some trek To spy…. to no avail- My Traveler friend come round a bend Again to share me trail.
