This is the story of our competition... I barely believed it happened to me, but it did! And it's structured, too!

Driving for five hours
I had time to think
About how I would lose
And how much I would stink

But then I arrived
And all through the night
I gave myself a quiz
And hoped I would be right

And then the next day
We call got the speech
About how we were all winners
Although we could be beat

I looked around me
And knew there was no hope
When I saw someone prove
That, mathematically, he was the Pope
(I’m absolutely serious!)

My teammates and I
Exchanged a glance
Because we knew
We didn’t have a chance

Our school had won this
Three years in a row
Could we make it four?
Well, you never know

We sat down for a match
And I didn’t buzz in
But we won, and won
Again and again

Then came the time
For the championship game
And, by the end
The score was the same

The tie-breaker question
Was something I knew
After he asked it
I knew what to do

So, the first time that day
I made that buzzer ring
And then the man called
“Player number three”

I held my head high
As I gave my response
“The Volkswagen Beetle”
The other team had lost!

My teammates couldn’t believe their eyes
A freshman had won the game!
And a girl, at that!
But winning is winning, all the same

So, we have our title
For the fourth year in a row
Thanks to a little girl and her beetle...
Well, you never know!

Lovebug,
You had me in stitches with this one! Just imagine, the answer was a VW Beetle! No one could ever top you on that subject, not even the "Pope of Mathematics". You are way out of his class on that. Well done, on both the competition and the poem. Great to see the structured verse. It was a lot of fun to read.
