~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking around an expanse of friends,
I begin to realize I'm surrounded with age.
How comforting is a knowing hand
Always ready to take my own,
And pull me toward the right path.
How wonderful it is for a smile of years
To be sent to me from afar.
Brimming with the wonder of living
Wise years already,
And being willing to share this with me.
I'll remain forever fond
Of that absurd sounding logic
That they would know me
In days when they were my age.
"Imagine (says she with a shake of the head)
That they could possibly understand,
The depth of my pain and joy."
Nothing I could tell any of them
Would be new to them nor baffle them,
But they would pretend so
For my own good
And seem to be walking the same path
When they have already tread similar ground.
Using the word "age" I mean no harm.
It is the most respected position known to me.
It doesn't mean that youth is gone.
It only means that experiences are many.
For we never truly grow up.
Nice tribute, Temptress... LOL... we might have a hard time figuring out just who is "older" around here, of course..
I must admit ... we've been around the block in many directions ... but we still learn new experiences every day
We love to share with those experienced enough to listen
Well I just turned 21, so does that make me older or younger than you?
Great expression, Temptress!
Well, I certainly feel young, but I do qualify as a senior citizen some places, and I can say I took an early retirement, rather then just unemployed..and I've learned a bunch of things and still am...nope, I haven't grown up yet, and I ain't going to and I'm certainly not old, or always wise.  Thanks for the sweet poem!
21 plus tax
My 11 year old daughter came to me this day
with wishes of Happy Birthday she than asked
if I was old
OLD!! I said
Today I turn 34, Ya she said
34 is old!
at least that is what I’ve been told
I replied
Old my child is not what a person is
But rather,  what one becomes
If ever we forget the laughter
than tis true old by way of number
is to what we each succumb
I still believe in fairies
I look for angels in the sky
With you I swim , I run threw grass
Climb up the trees to sit on branches
as we two watch the world go by
On our bikes we explore the world around
We sit in silence observe the Deer
the Fox in forest bound
Search threw creek bed seeking treasure
that beneath the mud and water dwell
Toboggan, Ice skate , with you each winter
Laugh out loud as each time I recall
the many painful moments that
on to my butt I fell
Old! no
That is not what I am
Yet I have aged and that is true
With each year I have learned  many a lesson
Most my sweet child, I learned from
loving you
If you allow within your heart
freedom , innocence
To view the world threw the eyes of a child
all moments to be, all moments yet untold
Then not a single year that passes by
will ever make one old
But , just in case along life’s path
another asks my age
I say, well my friend, this is fact
smile as I reveal
I am today and always
a mere
21 plus Tax
I live in canada with pst and gst I will 4ever be 21 plus tax
Smile my friend age is a beautiful thing
I guess you are as old as you feel. I'm 43, been accused of looking 32 and feel like I'm about 22 or so. I look fondly upon the late 60's and early 70's as a time I'd like to revel in for at least the next 43 or so years. I don't wanna grow up. So I won't. BTW no offense taken here Temptress. I've learned alot but won't lay down and get old because of it.
*chuckle*
Well I'm 24 (or will be in 12 days).
And I know how you feel.  You're only as old as you feel
This was so dear and so warming, Temptress, and not the least bit offensive. To the contrary, it shows a faith in your friends here on Passions. And incidenally, also well written.
I think this is wonderful. They can help us through so much!  And Shawna's got the right idea...don't ever stop laughing and living.
Well Temptress...being just a bit   older than you, I only have this to say. There are really only two ages, living and dead   and I think everyone on this forum seems just about the right age to do anything they dream of
