Soul’s Poetry

When you look upon matters as God’s gift
those matters give you more than a lift
so here is a gift I hereby gift you now
don’t ask me “why” and don’t ask the “how.”

‘Tis nothing as complex as an unsolved riddle
but meeting somewhere, perhaps, in the middle
‘tis something that frequently can be taught,
‘tis something that at certain times can be bought.

The gift I have roams in my life’s blood
pouring from my soul as if from a flood
and for this gift I am richer by far
if this gift is in you, you know who you are.

But better it is when it’s a gift that’s given
something that gives a slight grant of heaven
so do not ask any more searching questions of me
when you sell your soul, I’ll sell my poetry.
