Billowing outstreched arms of snow lash against the fall bared trees which whip about under the control of biting cold north winds pouring down through the winter encased valley where inches of soft powder has entrenched itself over the night During the intermittent breaks of driven snow smaller rabbits and birds dash about, moving from one shelter to another while searching for a morsel of food, having not the foresight of the wily squirrel still safe on his straw bedding As the storms temper winds down and eventually fades into forgiveness, the heavy snow laden clouds above give way to peaks of the winter sun that gradually strengthens and accents the whiteness of the snow covered landscape Before long, the crunching of feet through the snow signals the approach of children dragging their worn and dented sleds to the top of the hills lining the valley as they look below and excitedly prepare to fly down the hillsides As the day progresses, the hill becomes rutted with sled trails and the returning footsteps of children huffing and puffing their way back up the hill while all the time the winter sun smiles down and the air resounds with thrills of laughter A real man kisses his children goodnight |
