Branded by my hairstyle Or the method of my dress, Labeled for my wry smile Or for sins I may confess, You can't deny you judge me For the color of my skin. Nor can you just ignore me Or my pleadings from within. You leave my soul in limbo Swaying with the breeze, And push my heart akimbo To bring me to my knees. Did you ever really know me? I don't believe you did For every time I searched for you You only ran and hid. What a shame you couldn't see me For what I have inside. What a shame you couldn't judge me For the things I did with pride. I guess I'll never know you Just as you will not know me All because our differences Were all that we could see. Knowlege tempered by wisdom...Wisdom tamed by youth. |

This has so much truth to it....Unfortunately, we overlook many just because of what we see.... That's why I love the internet so much - gives me a chance to know my friends inside, before the out. For most, the beauty IS underneath their skin. That's the part that never fades away...BRAVO! So glad to see you back - hope you're settled in? I've done away with my ICQ, so you'll have to email me sometime, ok? Keep in touch....Love, sis |

Ah, our "differences"... ("us" being "all" of us) How true, dear poet, how true. You've written this piece with such veracity that it makes me cringe, and then smile at your gift, of course. Wonderful perception. |

I try judge from what's inside, but tis very hard to do...we are visual people and many times we judge with just our eyes and not our hearts. Great poem! Nice to see you posting again. |

Anyone who would judge you for these things is not worth knowing! Good poem! |

Sadly, the differences very often are all that we can see. I will never understand why people can't-or won't-look past the surface. Well said. Elizabeth "He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him!" -The Crucible |

Michael, Corazon: Always feels like "coming home". We are finally settled and I have whole new things to gripe about, so you can expect much in the way of agressive free form in the near future. |
