Windows 2000

The windows lie on one another
Tiled square transparencies
You click the one you want to see
It marches forward just to please

An icon bursts into a window
Double clicking is the clue
But sometimes windows like to hide
So stubbornly evading you

It doesn’t take imagination
Special skills or even brains
Then why is it so difficult
To find these blasted window panes?

My little grandson, two years old
Climbs up to sit on grandma’s lap
He grabs the mouse and I begin
To see a generation gap

He wields it like it is attached
Right to his palm and fingertips
He clicks away and surfs the net
He’s got the world right in his grips

And he can’t even spell his name
Or write a word or read a thing
In fact he doesn’t even talk
So how does he know everything?

The children of today are smart
They’re born with mouse in fingertips
I swear they somehow come from genes
Made up of small computer chips

Grandma, this was really nice.  Kids never stop surprising you with what they know.

Of course, if you're under 6, you don't have to read the directions, either...

Cute, Elizabeth

Awwwww, Lizzie~
So precious.  I can just see it happening.
Yep, those little 'micro-chips' are pretty gosh-darned good surfers.
Wonderful piece ... got me grinning.

Not only that, they know where all the CD's are and how to program the VCR--this is such a wonderful read Liz.  I hope that I have grandchildren someday!

Oh I can relate to this one, Elizabeth!! This is just delightful!! Our young-uns are sure amazing aren't they?! When I first got my computer, Nicole asked me, "Mom-Mom, how do you dot com this thing?" Needless to say I was rolling!! She picked up the lingo from TV. They are so smart aren't they? Nothing gets by them! She also loves my computer! Great poem, Elizabeth! Thanks for the smiles!

I loved this one  . When we got our computer my mom felt so lost because my sister and I knew so much more than her. I have to show her this poem it will make her laugh. I guess we are just born with it  .

Hi Liz,

Boy do I understand this poem, last november someone gave me this computer and not only did I laugh at them I cried out of total fear but now I can't wiat to get on it. Now if there was a way to get my posts from word to this site instead of hand writting them and then putting them on here I would be in heaven.

Great poem,  Cerenity

I loved your choice of words, of little windowpanes on the desktop. What cool images. Thanks for sharing.

Cerenity, I finally learned after hand posting hundreds of poems. You edit, copy the text from your word processer, open the forum to your post, click the RIGHT mouse button once, then paste.
Glad I'm not the only one. Thanks for your enjoyable responses

Thank you Liz, for posting this. I am enjoying childhood again through my children's eyes. Do you get to enjoy childhood a third time with grandchildren?

I love this, Elizabeth!! Just the other night, I was talking with my sister when I heard my 16 month old nephew set up a howl... his grandmother was trying to reclaim her seat in front of the computer. LOL. That generational argument was resolved as most are... gramma gave in to the little imp! LOL
