On the Thursday of Whenever The Matriach and Madame Wang sang "Ours is a strictly regulated family" And so began the mourning period And the passage of Spring. A now common thing I can't control the hurt. And somewhere down by Riverside I hide from the dreams torn apart And beginnings that begin, But have no start And stay just for a day or two. She stands stranded and alone Yet can cleave my resident heart With one whispered breath in the dark. And in desperation the Seraphim sing To counter and dismiss household hymn. The fish are in the ocean The birds are in the sky Sung just for her, is her favorite lullaby. And should she grow tall and touch the sky The response now anthologized Is to tell those who don't matter Sweet gentle lies. Please don't hesitate in imparting honor Or mumble assent at deceit. While our prayers like tears disappear In the passing of counted years. There is a turning's touch In the holding on of too little And too much But in awesome truth does one deny The lonliness of the suicide. There is no use pretending Of a picture perfect fairy tale ending That was loosed by fiery tempers intemperate. And somewhere down by Riverside I hide from the dreams torn apart And beginnings that begin, But have no start And stay just for a day or two. But the pheonix of the garden knew The brown wren who wings to future blue. So carry your precious things across And please don't fret Your eager heart with useless fear. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Responses: |

There is so much in this poem to appreciate...these lines, for instance ~ "And beginnings that begin, But have no start" "Yet can cleave my resident heart With one whispered breath in the dark." "While our prayers like tears disappear In the passing of counted years. There is a turning's touch In the holding on of too little And too much" I enjoyed this very much. Claire |
