Once I heard it said, "It is strange how two souls meet"
It starts simply, words spoken, not a difficult feat

Two girls introduced fourteen years ago, little did we know
That together we would laugh, and cry and learn to let go

Days filled with hopes and dreams, nights of talk about romance
Chats about new songs we liked and learning the newest dance

We grew into women together and now we live far apart
The friendship we share keeps her always in my heart

Hello from a stranger as he sat all alone
Blushing as I climbed the steps to my new home

A surprise meal shared while listening to a song
Conversations that seemed to last all night long

Secrets shared, trials endured and promises kept
Being there for each other, even when we wept

Eight years in the making, growing stronger everyday
On knowing what friendship is, this I have to say

Ask me what true frienship is
I believe, yes, I know it to be
In these people who fill my heart
Babe it is you and me

A room filled with flowers, a stroll down a crowded lane
A place to rest our feet, beginning to learn we're the same

An open place with music in the air, seems we don't care
For we are caught up in the laughter that we share

Smiles, gentle touches, a voice so light and free
Feeling a closeness to the one sitting beside me

Walking hand in hand, something wonderful has begun
Two hands held up in silhouette, no longer two but one

A cold November night, a song with words so true
"Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice but it all comes down to you"

A walk on a sunny day with nature all around
Warmnth filling my heart as I smile at what I've found

Rendezvous in quiet places, a kiss at the New Year
A touch, a smile, a look to ease the fear

In life people come and go, but friends are here to stay
On knowing what friendship is, this I have to say

Ask me what true friendship is
I believe, yes, I know it to be
In these people who fill my heart
Babe it is you and me
