Silence, true in its own power For who can say it is not so, When words are forgotten And the emptiness is yet to be Among those not yet born The silence of unspoken thought Perhaps known as no thought at all Yet it is not rightly so For words are not feeling Unless they are spoken with such And feeling does not rely On the spoken word alone Nor even a whisper of certainty For silence prevails in the heart Therefore let it be My words hold not the truth Which my soul so easily giveth For they cannot say What ails the lonely heart, Nor what songs the joyous sing In their happiest of hour If only we listen to the silence, Instead of spoken word [This message has been edited by Deborah (edited 01-05-2000).] |
