Redneck Romance

Forget sweeping you across a ballroom floor,
Donned in your elegant best,
Waltzing to an orchestra
Or a string quartet.

He’ll swing me around the putt putt course,
And dip me on the fairway
Wearing overalls, old tshirt
And shoes that’ve seen better days.

There won’t be bouquets of flowers
But there’s a picture from a booth,
A spontaneous, public kiss,
We almost chipped a tooth!

Forget a horse drawn carriage,
We raced arcade horses around a track,
Then flew around the speedway
In go-carts, mine was black.

We didn’t hike through a rain forest,
Just a local state park,
Whiling away the daylight,
Lingering til dark.

We didn’t dine on caviar and wine
Bathed in candlelight
We munched on summer sausage
Under golden moonlight.

There was no brilliant backdrop
Of glittering city lights.
Just stars as far as the eye could see
Precious jewels on black of night.

No furs to ward off evening’s chill,
Just the touch of his skin
The feel of his hand on mine
Lit fires deep within.

No romantic ballad’s serenaded
From below the balcony
But he sang his heart out
In a crowded restaurant just for me.

We wandered through several waterfalls
And held each other perched atop
Holding and loving passionately
While the world came to a stop.

No interruptions, phones, or pagers
To break the silence in the air.
Just the sound of two hearts beating
And finding love in this pair.

I have a beautiful reminder,
Glow in the dark beads with a star,
Hanging where I’ll always see,
From the mirror of my beat up car.

So take your upscale gentlemen,
With suits and fancy cars.
I’ll take my redneck any day,
For he gave me the stars.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Tara,
Impressed with your poem and paint.
It was to me a little quaint.
But it was indeed,
Enjoyable to read.

Out yonder in the front yard,
Next to Ma's old washer,
That's where I put my knee down,
And asked for her hand ferever.

With a backdrop of old Chevys
And weeds up to our waists,
I was breathin' heavy,
As I looked into her face.

The ring was very shiney,
Came off my heater hose,
Not one of them cheap plastic ones,
But shiney stainless chrome!

LOL..Both the poem and Toe's response got me laughin'.

I agree girlfriend, sure don't need elegant bests and ballroom floors to win my love..But must admit that I like 'em a wee bit nonetheless..Teehee.

Nice one..

Deborah, isn't it great the way they do those sweet little things that just sweep us off our feet?

I see I ain't the only one
That got swept off my feet
And took a ride with a redneck
In his 4X4 truck with no seat!

He gave me the sweetest smile
And added the cutest wink
Thank goodness we was in a truck
Cause Lord that boy did stink!

But deep within that backwoods hick
I found the man of my dreams
Who cares if you could see his butt
Cause his pants have worn out seams!

Bringing back some memories with this one Girlfriend!
