Bear with me on this one, as I know it is lengthy...was written for a very dear friend I found online.

AOL LIFELINE

Real life seems a bit too real-
Problems piling on.
Day in, day out, the same ole thing,
Always wondering where the time has gone.

24/7 is not enough
To handle the daily grind,
So you end up here on AOL
And develop a life online.

Forget the stressers,
The real time jazz,
Forget all points of view.

Forget your morals
And English etiquette-
All the rules you once knew.

Brainless chatter,
Endless circles
Of people you will never know.
Real life seems to lighten a little
Without actually letting go.

The cyber world has much appeal
To those who need an out.
Breakfast, lunch or supper-
Dining company is always about.

Take your precious time
(That you never seem to have enough of)
And park it infront of AOL
Looking for some kind of love...

Or acceptance.

Or approval.

A boost of self-esteem.

And know that all those out there
Are part of the same home team.

The bored, the lonely.
The conversationally drained.
The witty, the fiesty.
Those emotionally stained.

The playful, the giddy.
The ignorant ones too.
The lawyers and doctors.
The keepers of the zoo.

If America is the melting pot
And we are it's brew,
Then what does that say about
Me and about you?

This is a lifeline for many,
A playground for others.
It's full of children
And their fathers and mothers.

The divorced, the happy.
The old and the young.
Those longing and wanting.
And those having plain fun.

AOL is what you make of it
But keep in mind one thing
Very few are on here
To into the real life bring...

The friends they gather willingly.
Each one a different breed.
To bring up a lost one seems like
Such a glorious deed.

Keep your guard high
And AOL can be a wonderful ploy
To make friends for a lifetime
That real life can't destroy.

Far and few in-between
Are those worth holding close.
Those who bring you up
And make you better with a dose

Of compassion,

And understanding,

And being a truer friend
Than any real life offers
Or could ever withstand.

I have encountered many
For whom I'm glad I met.
If it weren't for AOL
I would have a huge regret...

That I never would have known you
Or laughed with you or smiled
As I enter daily real life
With thoughts of you compiled-

In my heart and in my thoughts
And in my laughter and my tears
Memories of online time with you
Will be with me for years.

One thing real life and AOL have in common
Is that true friends are not often
Found
And I am thankful for this resource
That has brought me to new ground.

Without AOL I wouldn't travel the world so vast
And I never would have these precious times
That I value in my past.

This AOL lifeline
Can be a tricky catch.
Among all the ones not worth while out there
Occaisionally there is a match

Of the soul.

Of the mind.

However you would like it to read.
But I hope our friendship is something
On which we've agreed.

You are one of a kind
And I'd change not one thing
About happy times and memories
Thoughts of you bring.

Wonderful format,
