Too sleepy-eyed to stay awake I missed the sound of thunderous quake The new millennium reared its head While I was fast asleep in bed When I awoke on New Years Day I took precautions in a way Afraid that this was all a dream An act of God, a clever scheme Was this real or fantasy That everything looked real to me It seems that I survived somehow For we should all be dead by now Then I decided to explore To look beyond my bedroom door I ventured down the steps in fear Of what disaster might appear For I had not prepared myself With food and water on the shelf Nor C-volt batteries did I buy Nor candle wicks, nor shoo fly pie With cautious hand I turned the switch And light appeared to my bewitch Enchanted was I by the sight Of man made power and man made light I turned on my computer switches To view the damages and glitches But Windows opened up its eyes It had not died to my surprise The passionate poets still were there Posting verses everywhere And that was what I feared the most Losing friends and poet's post For I can live without the water I'd feed on maize and barnyard fodder But heaven help my family If I didn't have my poetry Elizabeth Santos |

Our thoughts and fears were the same, Elizabeth! I was awake at midnight to greet the New Year (quite a hushed, calm one, as if God Himself had laid a soft blanket upon the world) I, too, had a fear that something would go wrong, even though we had the advantage of seeing the rest of the world go through it first with no problems! Still there was a little fear in the back of my mind! I was pleasantly surprised that the T.V. and lights stayed lit! And then this morning, I warily turned on my computer with a prayer that all would be well! And here we all are, without missing a beat! Wonderful! And wonderful poem, Elizabeth! ![]() Denise |

I am laughing, smiling and feeling warm with your words. Seems we all feared losing this safe haven almost as much as anything else ![]() |

LMAO, well i am glad myself that I didnt lose my dear contact with fellow poets! Happy New Year!! ~*~ Hell is not a place of fire and a devil with a tail and horns. But a place of torment because the light of God is gone. To escape this, accept the blood of Jesus Christ! ~*~ |

Losing touch with you...and the other poets would have really been a disaster, for sure! Were we supposed to have shoo fly pie? Wonderful expressions here. |

I'm sure she will find you, First Knight No, but Shoo Fly Pie is a staple where I live Thanks for the comment, I, too, don't know what I would do without the poets. It's funny how it seems I know some of them better than I know some of my life long friends. Liz |

Wonderful poem Elizabeth! ![]() I'm so glad to get home and find everything intact, though I never really worried about it! No bottled water and vienna sausages for me either...LOL (even though I hear Kamla was stocking up on those sausages! ROTFLMAO) ![]() It's not the love you fear, but the fall from the height~Edwin McCain |

This is very, very cute! I had to laugh! We were stocked up, and I was lying awake at midnight. Our computers safely disconnected. Thank God, nothing happened. This morning I was emotionally exhausted by the stress of weeks getting ready, and then the relief of nothing happening. But it's okay. We're ready now in case of the perpetually warned coming earthquake, or other natural disaster. |

Caroline and Rosemary, I wonder if anyone counted the number of broadcasting hours spent on this subject. That's why I don't watch TV. I believe less than half of what I'm told, Thank you for your comments Liz |

Very excellent poem! The only thing we found out that wasn't Y2K compliant was the alternator in our van, once we made it home from up north through an hour blizzard, I immediately turned on my computer and found all was right with the world and poets in it! |

LOL Lizzy! Honestly - if you need some Vienna sausages go see 'deer - he is my chief supplier - but be sure to ask him if he is decently attired first OK? Is there anything you can't write about my friend? Well done. ![]() '...I want to be free - free to know people and their backgrounds - free to move to different parts of the world...' Sylvia Plath |

I was right there with ya - I didn't do a thing differently either - hehe - I did check in with Craig - and Rainbow Girl - and the other folks over on the other side of the ocean - and since all was well with them, I let it ride...... ![]() |

I love this! *S* Since I live in an area that gets to wait out hurricane season with breath held every year, I had flashlights, etc... but my primary concern was whether my computer would let me send smooches to a certain gentleman! LOL. My computer did drift back to 1/4/1980 for a while (if only my paycheck would drift back to what I was earning then! LOL) But what shocked me is how the people around here kept stocking up all through New Year's Eve... in spite of the overwhelming evidence that the rest of the world was making it through their midnights without mishap! As of last night, there's still no bread on the shelves in the stores... These people were without power for 2 weeks after Hurricane Andrew paid a visit... and they take no chances! *G* |

Thank you all for all those comments. After Monica, I stopped watching the news, and even before that believed less than half of what was being said, so I didn't panic on this one. I figured since the Chichipu Indians could survive the millenium, so could I Liz |
