If I were a poet,
Would I speak in rhyme
Would my friends tell me
To shut up all the time?

If I were a poet
Could I find my muse
Would it be just mine
The only one I use

If I were a poet
Would it fulfill my wishes
Would I have to do laundry
And wash the dishes

Ok…listen up! I’ve got TWO challenges for you!

ONE: Everyone write a verse or two to follow this poem..it must begin with the same line I’ve used – If I were a poet –

The second challenge is to go to the Announcement Forum for a very important notice about a new feature we are testing at Passions!

The first 5 teens who sign up for the program will be the testers!!!

If you'd like to volunteer to be a Mentor, hurry over and sign up..we are taking ALL names for Mentors to give the teens a longer list to choose from...

So….on your mark…get set..wait! don’t forget to come back and write a verse!…….GO!

If I were a poet,
And you my poetess,
I'd fill your heart with songs of love,
And with mine words caress.

If I were a poet
My dreams I would cast
Before thousands of people
Of whom I've amassed

If I were a poet
What dreams I would weave
A tapestry of words
For everyone to read!

May I never be too busy to help another's load,
Then I'll be drinking from the saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed.

If I were a poet
with words so sweet
I'd paint the world
at your feet.

If I were a poet
my words I'd send
to just one heart
that I could mend.

If I were a poet,
My transcendentalist self would show
As I sat beneath the oak trees
and journaled like Thoreau.

If I were a poet,
I'd find a happy home.
A place where I could share my verse,
These friends would be my own.

If I were a poet
Would it make me more real?
Would my value be read by
How I make others feel?

If I were a poet,
Would I love with my verse?
Would I render iambic
Yearning heart's sweet rehearse?

If I were a poet,
Would my boundaries expand?
Would I stroke far-off fancies
With invisible hands?

If I were a poet,
Would a kiss be much more?
Would poetic perception
Brighten all I adore?

If I were a poet,
I should yet question these --
For the chasing of wonders
Is the poet's disease.

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Geesh..Here's my attempt at rhyme.  Hope it suits.

If I were a Poet
How would I be known?
Cast to the sidelines
Or never alone?

If I were a Poet,
I'd spin honest tales,
Casting my lines,
With honest regale.

If I were a poet
I'd kiss the stars in my mind
Found and shared with friends around me
So they could know my find

If I were a poet
I'm sure I'd know a better way
To express the things I feel
With art, beauty and life and not just say

If I were a poet
(which we all know I'm not)
I think I would show it,
(but not a whole lot!)

If I were a poet,
(one who could rhyme)
I'd try to submit,
(well... every time!)

If I were a poet,
(here at Passions' place)
I'd spill out my spirit,
(oh what a disgrace!)

If I were a poet,
(which I never shall be)
I would be the misfit,
(And you'd still all love me!)

If I were a poet,
I'd write all the time
For money, lots of it,
Made from my rhyme.

If I were a poet,
I'd write to those
That I love, those who know it
And in passionate prose.

If I were a poet,
My gift I wouldn't hide;
Instead, to all I'd show it
With great care and pride.

If I were a poet,
And fire I'd still breathe,
Into hearts I could blow it
And make others believe.

Okay, now what? Do I go to the Announcement Forum? Hey, I'm a teen...

I just hope I'm not Number Six...and this had better not be the Village!

If I were a poet
I'd write you a rhyme
In iambic pentameter's
Wonderful chime

If I were a poet
I'd write you as well
A beautiful sonnet
A sweet villanelle

If I were a poet
I'd do it just right
So Nan would be able

If I were a poet
'stead of sad silhouette
I'd write sonnets and syncope
to my love laureate

If I were a poet
I would write of him there
Murmering limerick and lullaby
'gainst my silversoft hair

If I were a poet
I would capture again
Oh his face, full of rapture
'pon my sesame skin

If I were a poet
no more sorrow to curse
I would write my love home
from his Heavenly Verse

If I were a poet
I'd be able to find
poems for words in my heart
that I can't seem to rhyme.

If I were a poet
I would bare all my soul
and share with the world
for that's a true poet's goal.

If I were a poet
I'd invent a new word
to describe more then those
that you've already heard.

If I were a poet
I'd write of life's pain.
Then live some more life
and write of it again.

If I were a poet
I would wave my wand
over the world
from here to beyond

If I were a poet
all five continents
would be joined
by HUGS and sentiments

If I were a poet
I would wipe out misery
change tears to smiles
hope in place of idiocy

If I were a poet
I would do all that and more
but as I'm not
I'll dream of wings and soar

Your life must pass through the press of passion and pain to yield the wine of wisdom..

If I were a poet,
dead from years of rhyme

on tongues
wangful libations
to froth and roll

If I were a poet
I'd write my soul in rhyme
Etch my words upon a page
So they might last thru time

If I were a poet
I write a verse of love
Send it off into the wind
To him I think most of

If I were a poet
I'd make your dreams come true
In words and lines of romance wrote

If I were a poet,
The passion I'd weave,
As you open your heart
And my words you conceive.

I'd be happy to say
I'm already female...

If I were a poet
as fine as there are here
then I would have responses
in number, just like Balladeer

oh my, no good.  Let's try again...

If I were a poet
I'd weave a web so well
that in it you'd find magic
as I cast my spell.

well, that is OK.  Let's see...

If I were a poet
with angelic wings to guide my step
then good things would come to you
if all my words you'd kept.

oh, bad, bad.  Humm, one more:

If I were a poet
on a magic carpet ride
I would take you all with me
and keep you by my side.

I'm working on a big one...this is just a tiny piece of it.

If I were a poet,
I’d gladly bestow it
Upon anyone who was willing to listen,
For, my favorite folk lore,
And stories of yore,
Would surely make your eyes glisten.

If I were a poet
could my verse show it?
Would my rhythm section blow it?
And would my rhyme put on a poetic show
to let the world know?

Would I be as famous as Michelangelo
best known for his paintings but a poet also.
Would I be as beautiful as Marilyn Monroe
and if she was a poet I would not know it.
How about as artistic as the French painter Picasso.
I also must mention a Hawaiian artist I know
the multi talented Mr. Walfrido.
watching him paint is like poetry in motion
he has such a creative artistic flow.
Oops, I almost forgot Wayne Gabaylo
from Hawaii 5-0.
The beautiful island of Hawaii's original spraypaint artist
with the magic paint flow.
He calls it his "Art in Motion" spray paint show.
I confess a lack of famous poets listed here,
Oh, now I remember one, A man named William Shakespeare
This English poet and dramatist
was famous I hear.

Go ahead and add to my list if you feel you must.
Create a beautiful family poetry tree
full of those who are known to create artistically.
Paint some creative pictures with your imaginative words,
Place all your beautiful thoughts here on display.
For we are all poets each one in our own wonderfully gifted way.
