MEMORIES

The passages of hours lived
Are scattered thoughts of yesteryear
And misty visions finely sieved
Of those events we hold most dear

Selected pictures in the mind
Of what the heart remembers most
And what it cares to leave behind
Are nothing but transparent ghosts

The clearest streams to flood the brain
Are blissful moments in our life
And now and then the fiercest pain
Can pierce the chest like cutting knife

Exquisite songs and poetry
Can cause the tears to fall like rain
The memory of a splendid love
Or visions of the deepest pain

So many moments float away
And ne'er return to spirit's well
Love's greatest joy and sorrow stay
And ever in heart's chamber dwell

Elizabeth Santos

Liz - another stunner.

You MUST publish a book!! (With Beagle in it - for I love that) Wow - you can just write about anything.

Such exact detail!...I know that piercing of the chest...from memories...(and from a few "street" surgeries too...)....LOL...but those become memories also.....Nicely done Lizzie!

Elizabeth, my friend-
You've captured many memories
in this one.
Such feeling.

This is beautiful, Elizabeth... and so very true... Just this morning, the memories of singing in the car with my family were so strong I could hear the tires hum to the rhythm of my falling tears. *S* And you're absolutely right about Toe... (but I'll warn you... the more you know, the more you'll admire him. *G*)
