When I was young I would look to the sky < !signature-->Gazing at birds and wanting to fly But then there was something that caught my eye I sat there transfixed as parachutes flew by "I'm going to do that" I said with a gasp "I know when I'm older it'll be in my grasp But for right now this dream I will clasp Tight to my heart for I know it will last" As years went by I never forgot The wonderful beauty that skydivers brought To me as a child although I know not Why is it I chase this vision I've sought And then came a day not long it would seem That I was to jump with three in my team I will be strong and try not to scream As I fall through the air and realize my dream I went to the drop zone to begin my training The first day was long but I'm not complaining They taught me the skills that I'd need for sustaining My life as I fly while the altitiude's draining I look out the door at the ground far below Will I land safely I really don't know I muster my courage no fear I must show While I get into position for now I must go I crouch at the door and think I'm insane With a look to my right I scream out "CHECK MAIN!" I feel adrenaline surge through every last vein Then as the count reaches three I exit the plane I drop from the craft at a blistering pace Chaotic are thoughts that are seen on my face With the world far below it's earth I now chase Then I regian my composure with a vestage of grace I feel like I'm floating held up by the air The view is incredible I wish I could stare But the earth it draws closer of this I'm aware So I perform all my motions with no time to spare And then it came time that I had to pull At five thousand feet I remember the rule My parachute popped out and then opened full But a line twist I got so I maintained my cool I bicycle kicked and got out of that Sighing with relief in my harness I sat Dangling precariously the world looks so flat As seen for the perspective of where I was at Now under the canopy I find I'm astounded By all of the beauty of which I'm surrounded I think of the free fall and how my heart pounded While slowly desending to become once more grounded I watch the land as it comes up to meet me "I hope I can do this" I say so discreetly I think of the class and what they had taught me Then flaring at last the earth had now caught me My fear was for naught and my landing quite sweet Because I had managed to land on my feet I look to the sky "It was you that I beat" I think to myself with smiles that I greet I finally fulfilled this vision I sought To loose this desire I know I will not You could call me insane but I think I'm a striver For now I can say that I'm a skydiver G.A. tori...It was great fulfilling that dream. I thought that I'd never do it. But I said that on or before my 25th birthday that I was going to do that. So when I turned 25, that's exactly what I asked for. I liked it so much that I did it 7 more times after that and got to do a lot of really cool things in the air. My last jump was on my 26th birthday. Then life threw me some unaviodable cruves that have kept me from my dream ever sense. Now as I near my 33rd birthday I feel the calling again. With luck (and funds) I'll be able to once again fly. Hopefully this summer. Wish me luck!!! Denise...If you've ever thought about doing it, don't let fear stop you. I must say that it is the most increadable high (13,000 feet to be exact) that I have ever had and I highly suggest to anybody who ever wanted to do it to go for it. I assure you that you won't regret it nor will you ever forget it. temptress...Yes it was all that and more. I love every jump I made...even the bad ones. Thank you all. I'm glad you liked my little expierance. G Regret not that which you have done, Rather that which you haven't |

I had to smile when I read this, my brother took skydiving lessons, prepared weeks for his first jump....when he got to the doorway of the plane, he chickened out, the jump master pushed him out the door...he proceeded to open his shoot when he was supposed to, land perfectly in the little round target they were supposed to....oh, almost perfectly that is ![]() ![]() |
