Granma Granma make a rhyme! No, darling no, it’s past your bedtime. But Granma, just one more time you tell stories mighty fine! All right little one, but first tuck in tight to keep you from the bugs that bite. So what kind of story do you wish tonight? A charming prince or a handsome knight? Oh Granma I don’t care maybe make something fly in the air just tell me a story and make it long so it will stay in my heart where it belongs. Ok, little one, here’s a wee story true, one I discovered when I saw for myself the beginning of love between you and another and you no bigger than an elf. The day you were born you created quite a stir some things were wrong, and no one was sure what to do, where to be, you were all we thought of; finally I began sending prayers to the Lord above. “Keep her safe and away from harm” I kept repeating, again and again I ached to keep you safe and warm, kept praying for a miracle, and then... A person who would be your soulmate and your best friend true came in the form of your young aunt The third person to be able to hold you. Does He provide a number to rely on? That good things come in three? For truly your aunt Krystal was there to speak to you In words for only thee. She took you up calmly and silently gathered you in, with soft words she spoke, and in her loving gaze I think I saw a miracle; perhaps it was just haze but golden stars between her eyes and your began a spin. The little stars danced around, and hey you cooed loudly as if to say lovely aunt mine, you’re here to stay I’ll live in your heart, day by day. So, little one, there is your poem tonight all about you and your auntie too and as long as I live, I hope that I might someday see the stars again in your eyes tonight. c K Rilling J 7/1/99 Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |
