Sixteen Hundred Miles

Sixteen Hundred miles away,
and my battered heart beats
in tune with yours
and bleeds out your grief
as you cry.

I reach through miles
of red and green colored wires
to touch you
with my words
as my hands ache
for the touch of your skin.

I reach to stroke your face,
that stares back at me,
and my fingers are met
with the coldness of the screen
instead of the warmth of your flesh.

Sixteen Hundred miles,
and my breath halts
at the sight of your name
and quickens
when I hear your voice.

Spans of black highways,
mountains, valleys and rivers
lay between you and I;
their attempt to separate these two hearts
futile,
as I close my eyes
to feel you near.

David,
One day, these miles between us will all disappear.
I love you,
Ruth

Ruth...I am very glad that you two have worked some of this out. I hate to sit here on the side lines and see my friend hurt and confused. I am always here if and when you need me. ((hug))

I feel as though I'm reading someone's mail before he does, but Hoot, this is beautiful, your description of the distance between you. My heart aches for you

Ruth, as one who has been there, I will only say...Hang in there.  I eventually married my guy and two years later am still happy.  Your poem is very touching and beautifully written.  It describes the feeling of distance to the T.

Ruth-
I know this will warm David's night ...
it did mine.
Just *sighing* all over the place.
*sigh*

Ruth, Hugs to you, I know how hard this is for you. I could feel your heart through this poem as I am sure David will also. You really have such talent that I enjoy so much, and I will continue praying for everything to work out.

Wow, this is cool! I couldn't have said it better myself. That's got to be tough. I have a friend who has a 3,500 mile gap. I don't know if I could do that. But like they say, love concurs all. Good luck Ruth, well done.

Rather that which you haven't
