What is Death? |

What is Death? Death is life - by life's design An essence to again reclaim a passage to the infinite A step into the very same The spirit born of life anew Wanders on the solid earth And in the course of planet's turn Leaves its mark of pain or worth But in the season of its glory In the summer of its prime It shows its petals to the sun And withers in the winter time It spreads its seeds into the wind And in the morning of its youth Wonders at the joy within And seeks an answer to the truth The seeds then of its likeness bear Beyond a dream, beyond a wish The fruit of pear tree is a pear The son of fish is also fish And so the death then brings a life And so the life then carries on To seek the truth, fullfill its goal And bear the load until it's gone Death is life perpetual The spirit's bloom from mellow bower Drops its petals the the ground To nourish then the coming flower Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth, A wonderful poem and I agree with balladeer. The mystery of the circle of life, is the grand mystery. But I feel since we are the material of it, we will never know the answer. Love Sy |

Thank you for your interesting responses to this poem. It doesn't say exactly what I wanted it to, but I'll give it another attempt sometime. I've got to pick easier subjects to write about! No, I don't think we know the truth, Sy, but I believe perhaps a few have come to know it. Very few. Liz |

Definitely agree with martie - I also love the way you look at life. Whether or not you have said precisely what you wanted to say I still love what you have said here (phew!) Wonderful, Lizzy!! K 'Writing sharpens life; life enriches writing' Sylvia Plath |

Liz, it is the way in which you share your craft, as much as the message within your words, that speaks to me. This is beautiful work. Claire |

Elizabeth, Beautifully said. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: "In my end is my beginning." – T. S. Eliot Gene |

This is very good. You've explained the cycle of life very well. Thank you for sharing this piece. G Regret not that which you have done, Rather that which you haven't |

Elizabeth: beautiful....I believe we leave this life because we learnt life's philosophy quicker than most and so we go on to learn in a different way...daft I guess, but it's how I think.. HUSG Memories give you the power to collect roses in the winter... |

Liz, so nice you have written what has no end and all beginnings. Excellent and so defined. First the title scared me a little bit but it pulled me in to read. The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |

Elizabeth, I read your comment where you say this piece isn't exactly what you wanted to say, and I can respond that I know what you mean...but you are on a good track. Given what you are going through, it may be some time before the words come. Our prayers remain with you and Tony. Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |
